The exact moment of the winter solstice: 9:21am which is when the Earth's North Pole is the most tilted away from the Sun during its yearly journey around it.

Countdown to summer starts tomorrow.

It's almost like they timed Christmas to be some kind of celebration of this event.

I always console myself with the thought 'It's another 365 days until it's as dark and stty as this again'

I really hate the grim dark months. Game shooting, working the dogs and a few ski trips helps me through it.

I have a weather station thing with sunrise/sunset times. It's definitely quite depressing watching the sunset time get earlier every day. But now it swings back the other way thank goodness.
If we could just have a decent summer to enjoy it next year, please!

It doesn’t bother me but I make a point of getting out in daylight every day.

At this point in the year I’m not fed up with dark evenings. I do tend to find that come February or so I think right I’ve had enough of this and can’t wait for the longer evenings to roll in.

Our earliest sunset is already past. Small wins smile.

However sunsets have been getting later since the twelfth of December, the earliest sunset does not correspond with the shortest day.

The wife wants the pool opened up so when the kids / grandkids fly down for Christmas it looks nice while they are on the terrace.

What a complete waste of time and chemicals, it is way too cold to swim and I am getting sunburned sorting it out. Temp is a max of 22 degrees over Christmas so the water isn’t gonna get any hotter in these short days and long colder nights. Still, happy wife, happy life.

I have wondered this, no long summer evenings, no lingering sunsets or sun rises, just straight over the top in twelve hours every day.

I remember thinking the same when in Gran Canaria some years back. It's like some turns a light on or off.
Suddenly it's dark and it's only 6pm.

I much prefer the UK for the long summer days.
