Do you have problems speling?

Despite doing well academically at school I always struggled with spelling, even though I’ve always been a keen reader. I have definitely improved through practice (I have always had to write a lot for my job) yet I can still get tripped up by some words (as evidenced by a thread I started this week!)

One thing that hasn’t helped is the mix of US and British English. I am sure I accidentally use US spellings in British English documents/emails.

How about yourselves? Any particular words that catch you out?

Not really. My grammar is terrible though. Largely self taught as we just didn't cover it at school.

No idea what a noun is, let alone a past participle, is that even a thing?

I seem to instinctively know when a word is misspelled. I don't read a huge amount but lyrics interest me more than music a lot of the time.

My spelling is pretty good but what I always find fascinating is why people misspell common words like loose for lose or warrantee for warranty. I mod on a Range Rover forum and the amount of people that write Vouge instead of Vogue is off the scale, it never fails to perplex me.

Out of curiosity what year were you born? Early 80’s

Born in 1969 and beyond the absolute basics I wasn't either. Certainly nothing about participles or the like.

I learnt about grammar when I taught myself German.

I do have a problem with phone keyboards, and spellcheck deciding it knows better than me.

Learning German taught me more about English grammar than any English teacher did, sadly. Glad I did it as I now speak 4 languages although only use two of them usually.

English, German, Swedish and Spanish. Swedish was the easiest of the lot for me to learn.

My typing is another mater.
