The 25th day of advent...
Discussion
I thought I'd come to Pistonheads to settle this debate, because you're all sane, rational, reasonable people
Advent calendars. I'm 45, a child of the 80s and 90s. I would stake my testicles on the fact that I never once had an advent calendar with 25 doors. It was always 23 doors and a larger or double door for the 24th. There was never anything for Christmas day. A friend insists that there was always a door for the 25th and that I'm a lunatic.
FIGHT.

Broadly the same age as you and I agree with you - my advent calendars as a kid all had 24 doors (23 normal ones and one big one for Christmas Eve).

We did always get fairly 'traditional' advent calendars though - just card with Christmassy images behind the doors. Our parents didn't go in for the TV/Film/Chocolate Bar themed ones with treats behind the doors. These seem to go for the 25-door design.
So it probably depends on how close your advent calendar hews to the Victorian/Christian tradition, since the religious Advent season very definitely ends when Christmas Eve becomes Christmas Day (see also those places in Europe where the Christmas celebrations actually happen on the evening of the 24th, not the 25th).

I remember the traditional, card ones with mere images behind the doors, [partridge]but then my father received a promotion at work, so we could afford the Mars and Cadbury ones.[/partridge] Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
