In mid-November, I will need to make a journey from High Wycombe into Warfield, near Bracknell, Berkshire. A trip of around 15 miles, south.

The journey will be 1 way, as I am collecting my car, from Warfield. Intend to use public transport, plus some taxi, if needed.

The distance from Bracknell train station to Warfield is around 3.5 miles.

I don't have Uber account, but can set 1 up, if it helps here.

JEEEZ, single train trip from High Wycombe is expensive!!!! And involves lots of time and lots of changes:

Bus options are more cost-effective, but would like help with other possible bus routes.

Could various different routes mixing bus and train be cheaper? e.g. going to Slough, Reading, Maidenhead or Windsor, and mixing up the journey?

And depending on bus route, if I'm on a bus and it passes by Warfield, I may not even need to get to Bracknell bus/ train station.

Time taken is not too much of a problem, I have good books to read.

15 miles? Am I missing something as to why you aren’t just uber’ing?

37 bus from Wycombe centre to Maidenhead - change at the station (Frascati way) to the 53 bus toward Bracknell Bus Station - the route goes through Warfield

Can’t see how any trains would work, maybe if you got a lift to Bourne End you could get a train to Maidenhead (12 mins) but doubt you’d save time vs bus once you’ve waited for the train

You could do HW to Reading on the train - about 90 minutes with one change at Oxford & then get the X4 Reading to Bracknell bus - another hour but the above via Maidenhead seems a better way. Or just Uber the whole journey in one go.

If money is an issue just walk it. It wil only take about 5 hours and take the scenic route.

Or borrow a push bike?

Bracknell is right opposite a bus station, 15 mins to Warfield.

I once needed to collect a new car from Tetbury. I hitched into Bath and at the bus station asked the time of the next bus to Tetbury.

"That'll be next Wednesday" I was told so I hitched the rest of the way too. One ride was in a Reliant three wheeler, the second with a car parts delivery driver who dropped me at the door then went round to the spares department.

Too risky these days I suppose.

Uber or ask a mate for a lift. Surely someone would take you? I’ve never known such issues!!

Or ask whoever you are picking the car up from to come get you in it?

Taxis from HW are pretty reasonable as they do this run routinely (well similar) uber is plentiful as well. That’s what I do for Marlow to HW

Place a line of trampolines in a straight line.

Build a trebuchet that will fire you onto the first one, then bounce the rest of the way keeping up momentum.

Are you me? I live in High Wycombe and regularly need to go to/from Warfield to collect/drop a car at the garage I use.
Uber is the answer, it's usually around 35£

How is it riskier today, when you have a mobile phone that can be used to share your location and photos of any car you get a lift with?

The main problem with hitchhiking is probably that less people will be likely to stop as it's just so unusual.

Just posing the question as I haven't seen anyone hitching for a very long while, a couple of decades at least.

Surely someone will take you on a 15 mile one way journey as if you tell people you’re picking a car up usually you get offers without asking, or as your last sentence.

I bought a car in June about 12 miles from me, went and viewed it, did a deal and said can you follow me back and I’ll run you home after, it saved faffing with road tax, insurance etc there on the spot, he agreed and within the hour I’d taken him back home and the car I’d just bought was in my garage.

Common sense is a wonderful thing at times.

Ffs, just get a cab.

It’s 15 miles. Come back to us when you’re picking up from Inverness.

Two/two and a half hour train raid journey with three changes? From High Wycombe to Bracknell? Sounds like a ball ache. I'd be asking a friend. Your driver could drop you to the door and still be back in time before the train gets you to there (and the journey doesn't end there!).

I'm not sure if I'm missing something here, but have you tried using Google Maps?

The directions function has an option for public transport and it works really well. Make sure you've got the time of day sorted, otherwise you'll get some whacky results.

Assuming you live in or near High Wycombe, you should already know train options are limited, so unless you wamt to go into London and back out, then you need a bus.

How big is the car? If a bicycle will fit in it, ride the bike to the pick up point, drive home.
