While reading this thread I wondered, what is the best/worst freebie you have received?
I once had a curry courtesy of the BBC on my brother's expenses.

I got a ticket the British Grand Prix via a Renault competition, we had to pick the tickets up at an airfield in a pretend put stop where they also gave you a goody bag with a hat, radio, toys etc.
The whole stand was full of people doing the same so it probably wasn't very exclusive but it was a great day.
I used to get a lot of free dairy products when I worked for a large dairy company, my biggest win being a whole cheddar trickle.
I was gifted a car once, that was nice, I even got to drive it home from Poland.
There is no "worst", everything free is a win in my book.

Silverstone ticket, Copse corner, with a stay in a nearby hotel the night before, with a Virgin helicopter to the track and back.
It felt louche; the wait for the return flight was long, with A LOT of champagne to make up for our inconvenience. Then another dinner back in the hotel.
Also Queen's Cup at the Guards Polo Club, Ascot etc. It was the 90's. In the IT industry. Loadsamoney era, tho I was but a bit-part payer.

From around the age of 15 for around six years I would get a constant supply of gig tickets for Cambridge venues. This was 87-92/93 so saw some amazing bands. Was also friends with a guy who was a music promoter so we got to go to festivals and got loads of white label stuff.
15/20 years ago my sister worked for Karen Millen so got an amount of shoes/clothes, then went to Bennett’s Insurance so an amount of VIP tickets for Superbikes/BSB events etc. more recently a lovely company with the finest shotguns and country wear.
My Dad retired mid ‘90s but went to work at Silverstone so tickets and VIP stuff for events there.
In the last four years my eldest has become an influencer by default (they didn’t choose this and do a lot for charity and donate to hospital cancer patients etc) The amount of PR they receive is sickening. From clothes to food, hair care and makeup etc. Even the dog gets gifted stuff! Obviously I benefit and enjoy some very high end beauty products and perfumes. Even my dog has featured in a PR post with a box of raw food treats.
But the best free thing I enjoy most is finding a park up in my van with an amazing view and meeting complete strangers with the best life stories to tell.

Worst freebie I actually got, a T shirt emblazoned with whatever rubbish slogan UBS ( Swiss banking clients at the time) were peddling.
Worst freebie promised but not even delivered, a hoodie embroidered with the name of a recently completed project, I was on the list, then mysteriously didn’t get one, ruined my whole lunch time that did.

Worst - a pair of branded socks from a company who made valves.
Best - some extremely high grade uncut emeralds from the mine the client’s bag man owned. I don’t have many scruples but declined as it was majorly weird. Client was a well known very dodgy ex president.
I don’t even have that interesting a job! (see the socks!)

Tickets for a rugby match.
My boss insisted that I went, sponsored by some local accountants and he wanted a closer business relationship,
I have no interest in rugby, it poured down the whole time, the hosts were totally boring. To cap it all I got some grief when I got home because there had a been a drama and I wasn't around.

A holiday in Egypt that included a week-long Nile cruise, visits to the Valley of the Kings, Luxor, the Pyramids and a luxury suit at a top Cairo hotel.
Flight in private plane from Northolt to a French chateau for a few days dicking about in various cars at Montlhery.
A day at Goodwood with Nick Mason.
Three or four days in a luxury hotel in Rome, Vienna, the Algarve, Sorrento.
Hospitality at top level race meetings at circuits in the UK and Germany.
The loan of various cars for holidays in the UK and abroad.
To name but a few...

Had a few thanks to a large IT company including;
- All expensed big london night out in Stringfellows (I have only vague recollections of it)
- A fully comp'd "work trip" to vegas to speak at their global conference for 10mins
Freebies from others include;
- Going to Seattle for a week to speak with / at the Virginia Mason conference for 15mins
- A "team building" trip to barbados for a week - no team building involved, it was hosted at the CEOs second home on the island and was a great week
Ive not done too badly considering.

Worst - branded lighters from a tyre company rep. The fact he turned up in a brand new 996 Turbo sealed the deal he wouldn't be getting any business.
Best - One of my clients not only offering, but actually going through with helping me strip my latest property. Stripping wallpaper, lifting carpets etc. Helped a great deal and spoke volumes about his character.
I've had various days out, dinners, bottles of Scotch etc, but actually the help meant a lot more than a token gift.

An IT event at Mercedes World at Brooklands, with a really nice lunch and then four different driving experiences. By far the best was the off-road track, as the cars were too quick for the small handling circuit, and I'm crap at drifting.
Worst? All the branded merch that I got from my last employer. The charity shop ended up with loads of t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, etc.
