Is eBay Ai to Blame Here?
Discussion
In my latest 'reasons to not like eBay' experience, my payouts have been put on hold. This happened when I sold an item and inquisitively explored the postage label offer: £2.94. I decided against it (because it was using Evri). As it turned out, the label was now mine to print.
There was a cancel option which I selected. A message popped up telling me not to use the label and that someone will arrange the refund (even though I hadn't actually paid at that point). Two days later, a credit of £2.94 showed up in my account. Then it was debited. Then the same credit, then debit action again. As odd as it was I thought nothing more of it and put it down to automation.
About a week later a demand for payment landed via email. I put this down to possible spam, because my account had two cards on it: one from which I make payments for purchases, and another to which I receive payouts from sales. Today another demand for £2.94 landed so I logged on to have a closer look. That message was in my account, so legit etc. I then went to see if I could do anything about the outstanding payment, but couldn't find anything to make anything make sense. During that time, I saw that two of my older cards were still on the account (expired two years ago). So I deleted them, keeping only the (current) two I've been using.
Now my payouts from any sales have been put on hold because:
It's only a couple of quid, yes, but if they can cock up over a small amount, I wouldn't want to walk myself into the risk of a larger amount following a purchase or sale. My PayPal account was breached a few years ago when someone bought some gaming stuff. When I asked how it was possible, they practically shooed me away with a refund without explanation.

eBay said:
We require sellers to maintain a payment method on file to pay for fees and other selling costs. Your payouts are on hold because eBay has determined that your current payment method is not valid. This can happen if attempts to debit your bank account or charge your card have been declined, returned, or eBay could not confirm microdeposits to your account. To get paid, please add a payment method to your eBay account.
Both cards are on the account and now I'm reticent to 'add a payment method' via the link they've sent me because it's clear they want to charge me for the postage (which shows in my history as voided). I've not sold on eBay for years now. Like 7-8 years. The writing was on the wall back then for sellers, laughably they wanted to "upgrade" my account to a business seller account or it would face selling restrictions going forward. I'd rather bin stuff than sell on eBay now.
My advice. Stop selling on there, use it to buy and do your selling across other platforms.
