EDIT: Anyone work for Royal Mail!

Just curious really as this is one of those "But how?!" situations none of us can truly understand.

So, I ordered an item. Item was dispatched. Item arrived at the huge Royal Mail building approx 50 yards from our building (it's more or less beside it) Item was out for delivery and despite having our address on the package, our building being virtually next door, the signs on our building with our name on them being lit and huge and us being on the main road of the industrial estate (the post office vans etc pass our entrance gate) they delivered my package to a completely different part of the estate.

Not only that, but going by the 'proof of delivery' picture in my 'your item has been delivered' email, they have delivered it to an empty building with a completely different name above the door. A not even close name, too. It's also pretty obvious it's empty. This all happened at 1.30 yesterday afternoon, when everything and everyone was open on the estate.

Genuinely, how is this possible? We can only assume, for whatever reason, the person delivering couldn't find our building (no idea how that would be possible) and just decided any old building would do. Is that option quicker than taking the package back ? Are they under so much time pressure that they can't ask anyone, etc ?

The "proof" of delivery image is of a hand, with my package, and a tiny bit of what looks like a yellow door in the background. The map then gives a rough idea of where they delivered it.

Funny old world!

Post Office = government-owned company that has branches and sub post offices in towns and villages where you can buy stamps and envelopes and all that jazz.

Royal Mail = private company that delivers letters and parcels from huge sorting offices and warehouses and the like. They have red vans with Royal Mail on the side.

Two different companies.

Speak to Royal Mail about it. If you speak the Post Office you won't get very far.
