I’ve a briefcase I want to refurbish, which has a goldy looking catch that has rubbed through to the silver base.

Is there any process I can do at home that might refurbish it? It’s not worth sending it away to have it done professionally.

TIA

You could replate it at home but would mean removing it from the leather and that looks riveted on.

You could use a paint / chrome paint pen which would need touching up all the time and look rubbish.

Or you could live with the patina.

I don't dislike the patina, but I am going to refurbish the leather and can imagine the buckle will be the only area that looks patinated.

It’ll need removing then. Appreciate you said you didn’t want to send it out but that may be the easiest option.
