Phone / tablet repair course
Discussion
My daughter smashed her iPhone screen. I was looking for independent repairs near where we live. Turns out the next one is almost 100km from where we live (we don’t live in the UK)
I’m pretty handy with most things and will have a go with repairing my daughter’s screen with Ifixit, which got me thinking about taking a course to learn properly with a view to a possible side hustle. Has anyone taken a course to learn phone / tablet repair? Any recommendations for London area? Depending on course length and if it’s interesting enough, I can add a few days next time I’m there.

Where do you live extraT, I think a lot depends peoples mindset, when it comes to how they view broken electronics. In some locations they will be viewed as a disposable item, whereas other locations there may be a thriving repair network.
Guessing if the nearest is 100 kms away, your location may fall in to the former. I doubt you’ll find any useful courses (short duration) in the UK, probably best following GliderRider’s recommendation, of ‘youtube’. Keep in mind, the time taken to acquire ‘RELIABLE’ replacement parts.
I knew some people based in Africa, toyed with the idea of sending 2nd hand phones there. Most people here when replacing a phone, just retire the old to storage. Offered money ‘no interest’ came up with innovative ideas, i.e. sponsor poor children’s education ‘still no interest’. Gave up on the idea.

That sounds like a great idea! Taking a course to learn phone and tablet repair could definitely be a useful skill, and it might even turn into a profitable side hustle. In the London area, there are several options for repair courses, such as those offered by the London School of Electronics or through workshops by companies like iFixit itself. These courses often cover various aspects of repair, including screen replacements and troubleshooting. Checking reviews and course details to ensure they match your interests and goals would be a good start. If you have some flexibility, adding a few days to your next visit to London could be a great opportunity to explore these courses.
