Eat your heart out Costa Coffee etc

I have the loyalty card, except it's now an app on my phone so that they can glean more intel about me, and another for Harris & Hoole for when I feel like going a bit posh. It's a right palaver of course, switching on WiFi, Bluetooth, Location and NFC etc, etc. All so that I can get a free coffee every 7 to 20 times I go there.
I was in Dublin last week having a coffee with my daughter and mine was FREE. No loyalty card or App required, just for being old! The charming young lady didn't even ask for proof of age. What a breath of fresh air!

I don’t have a single loyalty card and not many apps. I’m sure PHs are selling this valuable data to someone lol
There are companies that sell the data, but none of it is personal identifiable data. You may be bucketed into an audience segment of, e.g., sports enthusiasts, if you are a user of fitness apps. That's it, so nothing to worry about, and it certainly shouldn't stop you from using useful loyalty cards like Clubcard, Nectar, etc.98elise said:
Why not just leave those things on?
These days, I do. But it was so much easier when they had just a card that they stamped. The App has more benefits obviously, but for the store, not for me.The Irish way means I don't even have to have my phone with me. Unbelievable, isn't it.

Talking of data.
I read that anscetory.com was bought by Blackstone Investments, for $4.7B. They must have really wanted that data because there is no way the business is worth that much.
Imagine all those people who linked up. What a gold mine!
I always laughed at people paying good money to build their database. Same with the DNA website.I read that anscetory.com was bought by Blackstone Investments, for $4.7B. They must have really wanted that data because there is no way the business is worth that much.
