On Saturday morning I had the headlamps on my Audi A6 S Line professionally refurbished, a guy called Mike ,who I have used before ,did his usual brilliant job .when he finished he came and sat on the bench at the front of my flatt as he was going to take a minute as he was thirsty and had a touch of indigestion. We chatted for a few minutes and we parted with thanks and best wishes .
A couple of hours later a message popped up on the local social media asking if anyone had contact with Mark's wife and could she contact them urgently.
Early today is a message on Mark's social page from his family informing everyone that Mark had suddenly passed away early on Saturday afternoon.
Mark was 48 and pretty fit holding rowing records at the gym.
Such a shock, doing his chosen job and a couple of hours later gone from this world .
RIP matey .

It's never nice when someone goes before the time we'd expect them to.

Personally though, I'd rather die too young than live on too long in pain and suffering after my best years are gone.

I suspect you came on here to share a little grief and all I can say is, you're right.

You don't know when it it anybody else's time.

Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes.

Miss-typed/autocorrected? Let it go, chaps. frown

That is shocking as no age at all. Our regular parcel delivery chap had a heart attack recently, hope he pulls through.

As Forrest Gump would say, st happens.

My best made died at 12yo, heart attack. I did not feel the need to tell strangers. (Although technically I just did)

Everyone is well aware of how fragile life is.

Quite. However, sometimes a bit of piss taking is just what's needed when you're feeling a bit off.

It must be an odd feeling when someone you've just been talking to dies.

But yes, you never know what's around the corner.

100%

We have all lost people at an age that was too young, and although it was a horrible and a shock, for everyone, it was by far the best way for all concerned.

I'm at an age where my parents and the parents of friends are all in their 70's and 80's, and some of them are in horrible states of decline already, and it isn't going to get any better. Some have terminal illnesses, some are just in poor health, some in mental decline. Awful.

All whilst their families and friends struggle to care for them, worry about them, and help them. Everyone suffers and it is exhausting. Imagine knowing, or being told, you are going to die soon or are going to have advanced dementia. Can't imagine anything worse.

fk that.

I like to do everything quickly, and was in a queue the other day (which contained a number of older people) and in front of me was prim and proper type lady who looked about 80, and I said something to her like "We are going to be here all day unless some of these people speed up a bit" and she "You'll be old one day and then you'll understand what it's like" and I gave a joking retort of "Good Lord no, I'll be dead through either drink, drugs, or motorbikes well before then"

My response was just flippant, but I actually meant it. I would 100% rather just drop down dead unexpectedly, even if it meant losing a chunk of years at the end. It would better for my wife, by son, and for me.

People die in their thousands every day, many too soon.

Imagine if everyone posted on here every time there was a death. Save your empathy or pretend empathy for when it’s truly needed rather than just for gossip.

As an aside, don’t ignore chest pain chaps.

Lots of people are told they're are dying, and given a likely timescale. My father in law was given a year to live, and died a year later.
