Hi all. Looking for suits advice for looking good round the £100 mark as I work in a school and have no interest in getting anything more expensive covered in board marker or tea or lunch eaten whilst doing duty in the canteen. Have always used M&S before after getting lucky with the seemingly secretive sale dates but have seen Next and Matalan look like options. Anything else I’ve missed?

This is an over budget option; however, still good value.

These guys will order you an off the peg suit and tailor it for £165 iirc.

TK Maxx, online or in store.

In store choice is restricted, sometimes you get lucky on size, sometimes they have SFA in any size.

Cheapest I paid was a Black French Connection one for a funeral £39.99, Bought a couple of Ben Sherman for less than a ton, in store. Think they fooked up with the FC one.

Is that including the purchase price of the suit or is that just for tailoring.

If you know your sizes you can get decent stuff on Vinted, Next suits fit me really well so I pick them up for 20-50 quid on Vinted, saves me £100’s over the years and I’m not too bothered if they get stained/damaged etc.

Suit included.

My nephew got one from them recently for prom.

Have a look in Matalan. I can’t vouch for the quality but have seen a good selection and good value for money.

That does sound like very good value, but I'm assuming you have to go to Bristol to be measured?

When I worse suits (10 years ago) I would buy the Tesco three piece and it would look great for about two months. They were about £50 back then.

If there's a Slaters Menswear near you go along, tell them your budget and let them help you pick out something. They have a wide range and the service is good. They should be able to help with what's best for your shape. Also, they'll measure you properly which can help if you start looking 2nd hand "pre-loved" stuff. That's much easier when you know what fits.

Always used to shop towards the designer end of the high street but recently I’ve been looking for quality over little badges and have been consistently impressed with Matalan.
Last suit was from there, bit gutted I paid full retail, there seems to always be a sale event once a month, but for £79 I really can’t complain.

Sorry but you’re not going to get anything for £100 that looks remotely decent and doesn’t just look like school uniform. You will really need to double that budget at least for stuff from the usual high street suspects. Slaters mentioned above is a good shout.

In your situation the first question I would ask is do you really need suits? You would be far better off with 3-4 pairs of trousers shortened to fit you and a whole bunch of shirts from the likes of Charles Tyrwhitt or Hawes and Curtis in the right neck, fit and arm length. That way with four trousers and 10 shirts you would have 2 weeks work with a different look each day mix and match. How often would you wear a suit jacket in the classroom?

I might sound like a snob but anyone who thinks a suit from the likes of next or worse the likes of Tesco, primark etc “fits them really well” doesn’t really have any idea how a suit should actually fit.

Unless it’s forced on you, if you don’t want to spend much money don’t bother. A collection of trousers, shirts, couple of pairs of decent shoes, socks and cufflinks for a few hundred quid will have you looking much better.

Why do you need a full suit? Trousers, shirt and a smart tie should prove to be sufficient…braces and/or waistcoat are optional. wink

Ashford Designer outlet has a branch of Skopes.
If you are not near Ashford, then google Skopes suits.

Disclaimer - I've never bought a suit from them, but I have been buying their trousers for a good few years.

The M&S suits sale appears to be on but the style I was after has gone which is annoying - may be worth a look though as there’s some quality looking suits at well below quality prices biggrin
