Am knocking 50 but am still in good shape, wear slim fit clothes fairly easily and anything in medium normally fits me well.
I wfh mostly and don’t find jeans comfortably to wear by day so often find myself wearing fairly inexpensive jogging bottoms. But, during the day, when I leave the house for whatever reason I feel like I’m trying to look like a teenager in my t-shirt, joggers and trainers.
What’s your go-to garment for day wear that ticks the comfy box and goes well with trainers?
Should I be upping my joggers budget or is there a valid alternative?

Comfortable fitting chinos if you want something more casual you get combat style these days.
I wear a lot of leisure clothing but I’m slightly younger so don’t feel as bad.
Other option is mountain outdoor wear can look pretty good with trainers. Brands like Alpkit, fjalraven , north face etc

Quite a bit older than you, but skinny fit jeans with a stretch to them, every day, for everything, but I wear with boots, Clarks black leather for work, maybe a suede pair going out. The wife told me for years that skinny would suit me and feel better, I always insisted on 501,,s, I was wrong.
I think the trainers @ 50 are the things swaying your mind.

I'm 53 and wear my Brooks trainers almost all the time. If not, my legs and back hurt.Assuming as you wear them all the time, the problem arises when you wear a shoe or boot for a short time when trainers are not suitable? If that happens you need to be looking at the reasons, not blaming your footwear and resorting to the trainers.

I wear minimalist, low/zero heel toe drop, footwear as much as possible.
Sensible footwear, is sensible for a reason Going off topic with the footwear lol, maybe for another thread, not worn trainers, except slip on ones on the beach on holiday, for maybe 40 years.
Sweaty bloody things

There's no excuse for joggers, but if you must then as you say they are best not seen in public. Can you not change before you go out?I wfh mostly and don’t find jeans comfortably to wear by day so often find myself wearing fairly inexpensive jogging bottoms. If jeans are a no go then looser fit cotton pants work well for comfort and trainers. You can still do the elasticated waist/draw string if you like.

Jeans, all day every day, blue for casual, black for slightly more posh. Nice trousers for events. And trainers only for running. Every day wear is heavy walking shoes/light boots.
+1 to that.Wouldn't be seen dead in joggers other than at the gym, plimsoles and polo type shirts similarly only for gym.
Can't stand T shirts and dislike polo shirts as much for normal wear, proper shirt every time.
Boots for day to day wear, always polished unless suede (desert boots), wellies for dog walking.
