Upselling at the till/checkout
Discussion
Yesterday I was in one of the "Savers" stores buying a few bits and pieces.
There was a queue of about six people in front of me, every time they put their items on the counter the young girl said "Would you like some chocolate, we've got them on special offer?", or "Would you like some batteries, they are on a special?
By the time it was my turn I was really wound up and thought if this silly cow says anything I'll blow a gasket.
I arrived at the till and put down a toothbrush....£1.00.
She points to an electric toothbrush and says, "Why not leave that and buy an electric one for £24.99?"
I said "No thank you", so then she proceeds "We've got a special offer on this pack of ten spare brushes for an electric toothbrush, only £6.00"
I said "What would I want those for when I haven't got an electric toothbrush?"
She looked at me with a bemused expression.
I picked up my purchases a bade an hasty retreat.
ffs!

The till girl was just doing her job. Your issue is with the management who make their staff do things like this.
To a degree. But 'staff' are still actual people and anyone with half a brain can tell if they're annoying people. There must be some discretion. If I went through this rigmarole and was pestered like this every week I'd shop elsewhere.ThingsBehindTheSun said:

Exactly this, how soul destroying to be forced to push a product on people that you know 99% of people don't want.popeyewhite said:

This. It's like supermarkets that won't let you buy alcohol if you hve a child with you... like anyone who intends to supply alcohol to a child won't find a way to do it anyway. I can't help thinking the world would be a happier place if managers who make these silly rules could be given a good, hard slap across the back of the head.

Walk up to checkout....... "Just those please..."
"Any fuel today?"
Every..... single... time....
This is to assist with providing evidence around fuel thefts (bilkings) whereby the onus is pushed back on the consumer that they were given the opportunity to conform that there was no fuel bought and therefore if fuel is stolen then a defence cannot be raised that they forgot to mention that they had also bought fuel"Any fuel today?"
