Trying to buy some cheap cutlery and Ebay wants me to verify my age ,first page says it might ask for a credit card to prove that I'm over 18 ,the next page wants me to log via Facebook or Google, both get blocked as neither are supported via the app or you cannot log in via other sites. This is all via a Samsung smart phone
Round and round in circles until I gave up and bought some from Amazon which was no fuss and straight forward.
Ebay must be losing lots of sales because the system doesn't let you complete transactions.
More and more sites and apps are introducing more and more hurdles to log in .
User name
Password
Pass code sent via text
Then they want biometrics
Then link to another site that then doesn't recognise the original site and blocks you . Farce .

I use eBay quite a lot and never had an issue. I add in my details, plus payment details, have a log and password which work and off I go. Yes sometimes it will ask to send a text to verify it's me logging in which is fine.

You need to create an account to buy and sell. Once you do that then it's easy to use.

You might find it's your choice of browser that's the problem. If eBay wants to open a webpage outside of the app it wants you to use chrome.

Knife check.

Amazon notoriously lax in this regard.

For clarity ,I have had an Ebay account for 17 years ,selling and buying.,my default browser is Google Chrome.
The problem is knives ,I fully understand the need for checks and verification, but the system doesn't work.

Having just sold a few items on Ebay, some of them are going abroad via GSP, Ebay's 'Global Shipping Programme'. For those unfamiliar with this, the seller sends the item to Ebay's hub in Lichfield, and they then take responsibility for it getting to the buyer (no doubt at great expense to the buyer).

The rant is that every time I send an item there, Ebay asks me to correct the address. Their parcel booking system doesn't like the way the GSP address is laid out and also suggests the post code is wrong. This is Ebay's own information, auto filled by them. The item buyer probably has no idea what the GSP address is and wouldn't need to know anyway. I sent three items today, and for each one I had to go in and correct the address to the parcel booking system's recommended address.

Is it just me or does anyone else have this?

I've never had this problem at all and I sent the latest two items to the GSP place this very morning. Are you using some shipping system/label provided by eBay?

Weird, no issues here either using Royal Mail...

What I have found that the price they charge to post to Ireland is crazy - £20 for a small packet when I posted direct for £7 using the PO

Yes, this is using the 'Order postage label' service that Ebay offer when the auction finishes.

I used to do that, sorting out overseas postage myself, however I've had an overseas buyers claim an item hasn't arrived*, so using the GSP takes the risk out of the process for the seller.

  • An Australian buyer/seller who I subsequently found was notorious for buying militaria, then creating false provenance for it.

Not on buying cutlery but a moan about e bay motors. A recent change has occurred which presents a listed cars photos as if they have been taken with a 1996 Nokia. The images are so blurry that you can’t identify details such as kerbed wheels, panel damage etc. the layout has also changed.

Does anyone else experience this

yes

I won't use Ebay for this very reason.
remember when they did that whole " We support the buyer" nonsense? Did they fk support the buyer, i got stung for £20 and they sided with the seller despite me proving the seller was a lying scumbag and ripping people off but i wasn't allowed to say that, so i've never used Ebay ever since.
Might only be £20 but it's the principle.

That might be the problem, then. I use P2G for all my shipping so just copy and paste the buyer's address (or that of the Global Shipping place) into their booking form. Never had any issues.
