Watching the D-Day service on BBC1 just now. I thought His Majesty was looking quite drawn, pale and had lost a fair amount of weight. He didn't look well at all.

Furthermore, just how poorly is the Princess of Wales such that she would miss something as important as this?

Not entirely sure where I should have posted this, so if a Mod thinks it should be moved, please move.

His reign will be short.

William's reign will be long and lonely.

I predict.

I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone not EVEN the royal family.

Have to say I agree on both counts, I think both are a lot worse than we are being led to believe.

Couldn't agree more. That is such a sad and factual post.

Maybe a bad day after a recent dose of chemo?

He looked quite well at the garden party a few weeks back.

The pictures of him on the BBC website today did indeed strike me as extremely worrying for the man.

I don't wish a long and lonely reign on William either, I'd rather we had an election for Head of State, that way he can choose himself if he wants to stand, and we can choose if we want him to do the job. No "muh but President Blair" comments please, I'm not talking about electing an executive, political President US-style, merely having a choice over our Head of State so that they can act as a check and balance to our governing executive when they go rogue (i.e. Boris Johnson's recent unlawful behaviours - Monarchs cannot do this as the have zero democratic legitimacy), as per Ireland for example. Maybe that way this family can be granted the peace and privacy they claim to desire.

I wish Charles Windsor and his family good health and happiness.

Indeed, and Id be inclined to agree. Not a nice outlook at all.

It’s when there is enough room for two fingers down the inside of the shirt collar that gives it away. It seems that even kings don’t like buying new shirts.

When I go for periodic check ups after my own adventure with cancer, the first thing I am always asked is if I am losing weight.

That's always the undeniable 'tell' isn't it? You cannot hide the weight loss from lack of appetite, etc.

Kate being absent is a bit more of a concern. She is clearly more poorly than is being reported.

I'm no monarchist, but I really hope they get through this. The fact that there is no reporting or speculation on the news is, I think a remarkable mark if respect.

Friend of mine has advanced liver cancer and is going through chemo. His apparent condition (ie, how he looks, how much energy he has, etc) varies hugely depending on where he is in the cycle of treatment.
Some days he looks like he could be dead by the end of the week, and a few days later he is playing drums on stage with his band, or on holiday swimming, hiking and generally enjoying himself. In either scenario, he is just as ill.

In other words, the fact that someone going through chem doesn't look that great is not necessarily a great indicator of their health

It's not much of a surprise I suppose he's 75 he's got cancer and lymphedema.

I agree with the above, I don't think he's going to enjoy the same length of life as his parents.

I do not wish cancer on anybody. I just would observe that people often look very poorly when undergoing cancer treatment, but then recover assuming the treatment is successful. I know a fair number of people who have had some pretty heroic treatments and have returned to normal appearance.

I am the same age ( and there is the only connectionsmile) and of course there is always the knowledge that the future does not stretch out as long as the past. However, they are a very long-lived family so there is some hope for the future.

Same, a friend of mine went through a fairly aggressive round of treatment and came through the other side, but he looked like death warmed up during it, and he was half of Ol' Charlies age.... So this is no surprise.

I wouldn't wish it on anyone frown

At the risk of stating the obvious, he (the King) is recovering from cancer - it's no wonder he's not looking his best.

WRT the Princess of Wales, in her statement a few weeks back, there was talk of chemotherapy/radiotherapy. Given the disruption that has to one's life, it's no wonder she's not being seen. She'll be out of action for at least the remainder of this year I suspect.

Cancer is awful and sadly seems to be becoming more common.

I guess its just ups and downs. He is 75, its going to take a lot out of him. I thought he looked alright.
The only consolation is he will be getting the very best of the best when it comes to care.
So he is not likely to see his 90s like his mother, but they will maximise his life expectancy IMO.

Whilst I am sure we hope that nothing bad happens to Charles or Katherine, if William is left behind being King may ensure that he doesn't need to resort to Tinder for some companionship.

Same here. My mate looked like st when he was undergoing treatment for Hodgkins lymphoma at the age of about 25. His skin was literally green on one occasion when I called round to see him, and he was very skinny and weak looking. Full recovery though, and within a fairly short time from stopping the treatments he was back to being the depressingly good looking git he was beforehand. biglaugh

I was unwell with cancer a few years ago, felt awful for a long time and didn’t know I was unwell as it slowly got worse

Thankfully I am better now but it’s a horrid thing.

My beautiful wife was unwell in her early 20s, very sad to see.

While I understand how people look and react to cancer treatment, I was suggesting that with even the best treatment and preparation for today, the best make up and masking foundation, he still looked very poorly.

A dreadful situation for the whole family.

A seismic change from ERII who ruled for so long and now this upheaval for CRIII and PoW at the same time.
