So currently on a 30 day ban on Facebook for expressing a political opinion on migrants, it was considered hate speech.

Have had previous bans, for silly things such as calling someone an idiot. I've noticed Facebook has really clamped down this year, and results in bans for silly things. I've even had a ban from a comment that was made three years ago. Yet when you report a blatant rule breach, it doesn't go against their standards (apparently) and the comment remains.

I'm sure it was only 2019 when Zuckerberg boasted Facebook being pro-free speech. Has he backtracked on that? From what I can see, free speech is dead on Facebook and it just makes the platform unenjoyable with constant fear of saying something slightly out of line with their standards that will get you banned. Nowadays I don't often engage on there anymore. Do people use another platform that they think is far more free?

Why don’t you post the comment that got you banned here and then we can all decide whether it was justified.

‘Political’…

Try Twitter, your people are welcome there.

Free speech is an illusion. The reality is talk freely to the wrong person and one day you might get a free punch to the face.

I can’t imagine many defending hate speech, good luck with the thread.

Sacked off Face Ache a while ago. People navel gazing aside, I didn't like how you could cop a ban for sharing someone's post, but the OP could carry on regardless.

st platform, full of s. Mostly.

To all the people instantly assuming it was 'hate speech'.... get a grip you sad little saps. Its people like you who ruin the modern world. The fact we all have differing opinions on things is something to value not chastise.

Happily...

"My taxes are paying for them to live a life of luxury in the UK, so I have every right to judge them and have a say in what happens to them. We want them gone, they are a burden on the state."

Without turning this into a political thread, there's nothing in that comment that deserves a 30 day ban. It is merely an individual opinion.

Do you believe any opinion that doesn't match your own is considered hate speech?

Ultimately, no one cares about your opinion on anything, so don't bother.

I mean, I think it’s nonsense but I don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to post it per se (similar to how I can have an opinion on it). As you say a lot worse remains up.

It's social media. The whole purpose of being social is that people share different opinions and engage with each other, otherwise we'd all be sitting like nodding ducks. If people didn't engage on social media, it wouldn't exist.

I'm not sure why that triggered a ban. IMO it's ignorant but not offensive.

I got a ban by "bots" I assume for saying AMG should be shot for the new C63. Obviously I did not intend to shoot anyone however AI it seems has no sense of humour. I deleted the account.

what's just as bad is there seems to be no right to appeal - I've known people (Yanks or Yank car fans) to be banned for talking about trannies, something that's been used for years as an acceptable abbreviation (for transmissions); faggots when discussing meat-balls; I got slapped for comparing Putin to the nazis...

It does seem that FB doesn't understand (or doesn't want to) understand things that may not be Cali-centric (yes that is an exaggeration). It is interesting the the OP has been criticised for hate-speech before his comment was even posted on (so well done to those idiots). Was it factual what he wrote? Well as it's his opinion it is what he believes. Is what he wrote the reality of what is happening in the UK/West factual? That's something totally different. Was what he wrote nice? Probably not, but neither is is ban-worthy - but then what do I know being 2nd gen over here

I agree. I've tried to appeal mine, and about 10 minutes later got a notification that it still 'breaches' their community guidelines. It seems the appeal process is entirely automated, especially since Covid (which Facebook likes to use as an excuse for not having actual people checking these appeals). There is the Oversight board, but the only way to have a case reviewed is if Facebook lets you by giving you an ID number. Otherwise there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

It is a remarkably small-minded and ignorant comment that indelibly marks you as a thoroughly odious and objectionable individual but I tend to agree that it contains nothing that constitutes hate speech or justifies a ban from any platform.

Social media exists to serve you with adverts. If you say something contentious it devalues the platform for advertisers. This is what Twitter is going through at the moment.
