Mug selection for a brew
Discussion
I just received my brand new "Bad Obsession Motorsport" mug, they are the chaps that are spending several years grafting Toyota Celica GT4 mechanicals under an original Mini with all ingenuity, fabrication and agro that involves.
Its a perfect size and shape, decent handle and has something on it that means something to me after watching 30 odd episodes of them bending metal, brewing up, arsing about, welding and stuff.
So it goes to God tier in my mug selection, along with my "Tavern on the Green" mug from the restaurant in Central Park in New York, it was featured in Ghostbusters where Louis Tully gets chased by one of the massive dog things.
next level down are the Texaco, Duckhams and WD40 ones that did the rounds on Facebook a few years back, done like stained cans, also some twee ones with a cat throwing vegetables around with the caption "Tossing the Salad", nice to drink from but not the best to look at.
Then there is the middling tier, not quite the right size or shape, not enough capacity or too big like those bloody Sports Direct ones that my wife favours.
Then, at the bottom of the tree are the undrinkables, stuff you keep for some reason but its just st, Starbucks massive bowl, goes cold to quickly and isnt stable, the one shaped like a grenade with a gun stock for a handle, one from when you were a kid you cant bear to get rid of but its a weird shape or anything with a work logo on it
I am overthinking this but guessing you have favourites, its amazing how much it can make or break a brew, like when my wife makes one and it turns up in some crappy, tiny mug that the kids had when they were little as everything decent is in the dishwasher.

Mug choice is important. It has to be white in the inside, and not too thick.. Those sports direct ones are like drinking from a bucket.
Non-cylindrical mugs can eff off too. Square mugs are wrong (you can't stir them properly) and those semi conical ones (where it's wider at the top than the bottom) are just irritating. They hold less of the drink and have a higher COG plus a smaller base, so more likely to spill.

My go to mug is a "Mountune" one which is basically identical to the PH one posted above but with the Mountune logo's on it, I have it from a time when I spent far too much time and money there adding their catalogue of parts onto a Mk3 Focus ST, The mug is the only thing I have left to show for it now.
I have a couple of mugs with photo's on of me at track day's in different cars but they just sit there as something to look at and remind me of the day's.
My mug at work is a black mug with the Snap-on logo on it, I also have a Christmas mug in my drawer given to me years ago as a joke which has stayed with me.

I hate drinking from anything other than a mug which is white on the inside. Tea just tastes different if it's any other colour!
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean, I have a current employers one and its a perfect size and shape, with a comfortable handle but its dark blue all over and it does have some psychological effect on the beverage inside.A few years ago I worked in an office that was very safety conscious. I probably can't say who, but when you're running a bunch of nuclear reactors, you have to be keen on safety.
- Safety rules were that you couldn't use the stairs if carrying a cup without a lid. I was a couple of floors away from the canteen, and it was a big office, so the lifts were often pretty busy, so I needed a mug with a lid.
- Because the only place to get a cuppa was a few floors away, I couldn't be arsed with going too often, so I wanted it to be a decent size.
- Furthermore, the canteen would charge 10p for a mug of hot water and milk, if you provided your own tea bag. This felt a bit tight to me, with it being a massive company, so I wanted to stick it to the man a little bit. (They didn't specify the size of the mug.)
I got one of these:
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Bubba-Classic-Foam-Insu...
I didn't pay that much though. Mine was a litre, had a lid, and was just 10p for a mug full. I only needed 3 a day, and I calculated it paid for itself in around 9 months. The manager of the canteen did complain about me only being 10p, like everyone else, but he didn't change the rules.
