A local lady, I've admired her community work, Street Chairman, steps in and mediates disputes, runs the local Beavers group, just organised a great free Park event locally all whilst working full-time as a Mother.

I can guess quite a few people would feel the same. How do I start the process?

Someone I used to work with effectively got an OBE for doing her job. A private sector job, in the industrial and construction industries, and one for which she was paid VERY handsomely!

She also happened to be VERY close friends with her local MP.

The cynic in me would suggest that the position of the nominee has a very large bearing in the success or failure of the nomination.

Just give shed loads of money to the Tory party and she'll get one in the next post.

A relative got an OBE in similar circumstances.

An ex boss of mine got his OBE in the RN where he was a chief writer. Always says it stood for Other Beggers Efforts

I'm not sure you can be Knighted for "Services to Beavers" but if you can, you know, all I'm saying is "Arise Sir licks a lot."

I wanted to nominate my father in law, he'd did 22 years in the forces followed by 20 years in the local constabulary (with several commendations) followed by 10 years portering at the local hospital, I should probably follow it up but I've got the feeling that without some sort of political connection or local masonic connection there's not much chance.

There's a guy local to me who got an MBE for services to business.
His company is virtually worthless and he's only been in business 9 years.
Obviously in this situation it's not what you know but who.
