Conspiracy theorists... are they all just a bit thick?

I’m convinced that one of the things conspiracy theorists like about it is they get a feeling of ‘one-upmanship’. They’re often rather ordinary, often disempowered, people and yet by believing these theories they can kid themselves they’ve gained a huge insight that everyone else has missed.
So the best way to challenge one of these nutters is not on the evidence they put forward, but on their own qualifications for the job of global conspiracy unraveller. If you were hiring one, what would you look for? A glittering career in Egyptology, Space Physics or Global Pharmaceuticals? Or two GCSEs and a weekend job at Aldi?
Check out the PHs climate threads, they even start over egging their expertise to make out they’re qualified to be making these claims. Anyone who is gullible enough to accept everything they're spoon fed by ''major media outlets'' is just as easily lead and feeble minded as the most rabid of conspiracy theorists.
If by major you mean like the BBC, Sky, The Independent and FT then no. They are generally factual and myth busting. If you mean Fox News, The Mirror, Guido Fawkes or most small online ‘news’ outlets then yes you’re right.

Sometimes it's the anti conspiracy theorists who are a bit thick, or naive.Witness the Covid-escaped-from-a-lab theory that was deemed a conspiracy theory by the vaunted Dr Fauchi and censored by all social media, now exposed as not a conspiracy theory in Fauchi's leaked emails.
He’s saying that A)You’re a conspiracy theorist and B) He thinks you’re thick.

My BIL is anti-vax and couldn’t be further from that list. Double first from Cambridge in maths and physics, tee-total and works in the civil service.
I’m willing to bet he, and many other vocal anti-vaxxers, have had the vaccine on the quiet. At first it’s a desire to be different and take an opposing view to the majority in order to make themselves appear interesting and controversial after a life of following almost all social norms, work hard, go to uni, work hard, don’t join clubs or societies, work hard, get first, join Civil Service etc etc. There’s nothing wrong with any of that but it’s a bit safe isn’t it.
Then they realise being in the minority isn’t as great as they hoped, that because of their stance they now risk missing out (vaccine passport) or social ostracism so they quietly get the vaccine and no one is any the wiser, the ability to take a lateral flow test being they get out clause to attend events.

I think most people I know believe the Moon landings were faked.
Do you work at Rampton ?Joking apart, that’s a hell of a statement and time to get news friends who are in the real world. I mean if that’s their view on just moon landings how about the Holocaust, Elvis’s death, history and science in general ? I would stay well away from such nutters as the same weird viewpoint must apply to all sorts of day to day stuff.

I had a chat with an anti vaxxer/anti masker/anti government woman at a cafe last year, she is also a flat earther who was in her 60s, I asked her what stopped the water from falling off the edge and she said that there's a plastic ring around the edge of the earth holding all the water in/on... what held it in/on before 1907 then? hopes and dreams maybe..
Was she single and wearing 60’s gear and braided hair? And does PH under three usernames? Thought so.

I thought it was the icewall.Even though everyone knows global warming is totes fake. I mean, everyone knows it’s fake, and it is really fake, except for it causing rising sea levels. Otherwise the plastic wall wouldn’t need to be made higher.
Wake up sheeple!
