When people pluralise singular nouns (usually football 'experts'):

"You've got your Portugals, your Germanys, your Frances of the competition who'll be looking forward to facing England".

No,
You've got Portugal, Germany and France looking forward to facing England. There's only one of each of those.

"Hack" in the computer parlance originally meant to use something for a purpose other than what it was intended for. I.E. getting your calculator to run Doom.

Gaining unauthorised access was originally called "cracking".

I do agree that the term has become overused and misused so much that any meaning has been lost.

Degradation of scientific/technical terms.

Example..

"Back in a nanosecond" without any grasp of what a nanosecond is.

Expressing a rhetorical statement "...in terms of..." when it is not a mathematical subject. Still less is it "exponential" as a form of hyperbole.

Not as bad as sounding like "I've been to sex" when they're really saying "I'll be two secs".

It's as if those two expressions are metaphorical and literal.

But, also, people use the word "literally" when it's anything but "There was steam literally coming out of my ears", or, "It literally boils my piss".

"Reality TV".

When applied to shows like Big Brother, Love Island, I'm a Celebrity and so on.

Since those shows are entirely manufactured situations, how can they be reality TV ? They are the complete opposite of real life.

In a similar vein - Dragons' Den.

They're not dragons, they're Capitalists. And dragons don't live in dens anyway; they live in lairs.

Consequently, Capitalists' Lair would be a far more accurate title.

There seems to be an increase in posters saying "for sure"

That makes me wince a little bit every time I read it.

Plus it's completely fixed anyway. I can't remember her name but in the latest series there was someone peddling some snake oil cure for something and the dragons were basically all licking her arse and surprise surprise she got a deal, with Stephen Bartlett, who, it later turned out, was friends with this person so he already had a vested interest in it.

Load of crap!
