97% of the people in the UK are not black, it's utterly shocking how unrepresented they are in the population.

one might suspect that he's referring to the fact that Afro-Caribbeans aren't even the largest minority group

If Elvis Presley can be popular, it should be a doddle for Taylor Swift. A half decent singer, writes her own songs and an accomplished guitarist. Elvis, mediocre singer, never wrote a song in his life, could strum a few basic chords at best.

How strange our own tastes are.

I have always thought Presley was an outrageously gifted vocalist, with a wide range of tone and timbre that was never out of control. And though he was not an original songwriter, his choice of material brought black American music to the attention of millions of white people around the world. Frank Sinatra didn’t write his own songs either and nobody has ever let that stand against his reputation.

I'm not a fan of Sinatra either, although he was a better singer than Elvis, and a better actor.

I'm no Elvis fan, but he was a good rhythm guitarist.

If yo8u don't believe your own ears or mine, Jonny Cash reckoned he was a great rhthym player.

It's probally fair to say She was a Country Artist, and whilst she has never shied away from her roots, she's transitioned to pop music with various other influences including hip hop, rock, alternative and folk.

She is HUGELY popular, arguably the most popular artist of the last decade. This is because she has some unique abilities. She can retain fans who would have outgrown their other early musical tastes for more mature music, whilst still gaining new fans in 'kids' who are first getting into it. At the same time, impressing music critics who usually detest pop music, on principle. She can do this because her music is both easily accessible with catchy choruses and tunes, whilst having meaningful lyrics and excellent musicality.

She has good and meaningful lyrics also, instead of repeating lines over and over. I'm not a fan as it isn't my kind of music and I am old but she does stand out amongst the usual stuff on the radio.

Leads to moaning about the NHS being underfunded when the current annual budget is around £160 billion - a staggering amount if thought about.
True. Then think that there are individuals with even more wealth than that.
That wealth though is mainly the capital value of businesses, not a pile of cash. Its a value that will have accrued over a number of years, and may well have lots of "jam tomorrow" baked in. It may also never be fully crystalised and could in fact end up worth zero (Elon Musk is a good example)

The NHS consumes160bn of actual cash every year!
Yep, as I said above £300K/minute = £18million per hour = £438million/day.

£438million per day, every day of the year.

It is a colossal amount of money. On an individual level, people dream of the huge rollover lottery jackpot of £100million. The winner would be amongst the richest 300 in the UK.

That £100million fortune would run the NHS for 5 hours then that cash runs out.

I'm a fan of the NHS, but we can't keep puting more and more into it due to claims of underfunding & hope it will all be OK. What would be enough? £500million/day, £600million?

Insanity, needs an overhaul but no Govt will be brave enough to do it as they will be accused of "destroying the NHS".

There are over 60 million people in the UK. Per person that is £2700 a year. I think I was paying close to that for health insurance in Switzerland (it was a while ago so my memory not so certain). Health care is expensive and getting more expensive as they discover new therapies and drugs. On top of that we have an ageing population who need more healthcare. It certainly isn’t as simple as you are making out.
Given that there are 1.27 million employees, the cost is £124k per employee. Which given the costs of some of the assets doesn't seem that bad.
I pay (cash) $6k a year for health insurance, and the company I think matches that amount or more.
Then you co-pays on top of that should you have to get a prescription or have to visit the doctor, however we also pay an additonal $4k a year for a private doctor.

The average in the US is about $12.5k per year for healthcare spending with worst outcomes than the UK. https://www.ama-assn.org/about/research/trends-hea...

Oh - and don't ever get in an accident or taken to the 'wrong' hospital or Ambulance that your insurance doesn't cover (and make sure you are consious if you do go to a hospital to ensure the doctor isn't working for another insurance company)!

The thing I like about Taylor Swift is that she is relatively wholesome - as she moved into pop music she could have gone for scandalous outfits/music videos/dance moves but she hasn't. Quite a refreshing change, especially as she has so many fans that are children.

Ironically, listening to the lyrics of Shake It Off, it appears she actually wrote it for V41LEY rofl

I'm 60, I won't be going to the concerts or downloading the albums, but surely most people can appreciate the Shake It Off is a fantastic pop song. You don't have to be a fan to appreciate that she's brilliant as what she does.

Absolutely. Traditionally, parents moan about their kids' choice of music, with shouts of "turn that racket off". Forgetting that their parents shouted the same thing at them. But Taylor Swift is the favourite artist of my 8 & 10 y/o nieces, and their 40 y/o mum. It's a pretty neat trick to have pulled off.

Absolutely yes.

And the fact that she well and trully stuck it to Scooter Braun by re-recording all her old albums - fantastic !

There is a lot to like about Taylor Swift and not much to dislike as far as I can tell ( 52 y/o mainly 80's Rock & Metal fan..)

I liked that song she did about being over her ex, felt it really stood out from the rest of her catalogue.
