I'm four pages in to this thread, however I do have to give the OP a belated rofl for a quite superb opening gambit.

Bravo, sir!

Well to be honest I'd give it 10/10 purely FOR the lack of swearing

just spent an interesting few hours with the neighbour, their laptop takes a good 15 mins to boot up, ran msconfig to dump most of the crap from starting, they have 512 mb on xp, nice and very high res desktop picture, now blanked off

norton takes up whatever ram would normally be free, ran malwarebytes, ccleaner and some other updates, defraggler reported 55% fragmentation

intial scan on malwarebytes found several nasties norton had missed, but they have missed sp3 frown

Great rant. 10/10

Possibly tell him that technology baffles you and you don't feel safe with it. You could also point out that as you don't understand it fully there are strong chances that the bill will go through the roof. Failing that simply refuse point blank. That's what I did when they tried to foist one on me.

If/when my back office tries to upgrade the works PDA type thingy, I will try my best to take it and break it. My current thing is easy to use, but I have dented the screen so it now has a pleasant coffee type stain all over it. My phone is one of these:

Which is nice, as I have to try to break it. I can sit on it, hit stuff with it and throw it across the van should the need arise. The main advantage is that my PDA thingy is so crap that it needs the phone to talk to the office computer, which means the office can't track me! If they do upgrade things, I may well get into trouble quite quickly.

Lend me the Blackberry thing & I'll have broken it in a day or so. In the past year I've dropped phones off scaffold, covered them in paint, poured concrete on them, put them through the washing machine & driven over one.

Well, that was random.
