I buy from Samuel Windsor, several pairs all used largely for work, decent price and quality I reckon.
A family member of mine bought Oxfords from them and they fell apart very quickly. Google trawling suggested he was not alone. The 'Goodyear' bit they major on is nothing to do with the tyre company; it's a manufacturing technique. It does not guarantee quality a shoe maker told me.

I have a couple of pairs of Churches. Supremely comfortable when you've worn them in.

Some care tips. These shoes cost 100s of pounds a pair so it is worth looking after your investment.

1) Never, ever wear the same pair of shoes on successive days. They need a rest.
2) When they are not on your feet they should have a shoe tree in them.
3) Dry out very slowly if they get wet.
4) To clean remove dirt, use shoe cream to nourish leather then shoe polish to get shine.
5) Re heel and re sole sooner rather than later, otherwise permanent damage is possible.
6) Don't drive in them a lot. Use driving shoes.
I think I live in another dimension to some people.

Why? those six points are excellent advice if you have decent shoes and want to keep them that way

I purchased a couple of pairs of Jeffery West shoes and have been very pleased with them so far. Due to this I have been given a pair for Christmas but I am wondering what to wear them with. The shoes are a dark aubergine colour and look really nice in the light but what colour suits / trousers would you wear them with? The shoes are -

refusal to wear them will result in withdrawal of privileges and that is not an option I want to take biggrin
Any opinions?

Does anyone have any experience of Paolo Scafora shoes? I have seen some I really like on the internet but they dont have any UK shops and they cost £900 direct from Scafora themseleves in their ready to wear range. Anyone got a pair?

I make regular trips to Roberto Malone's in Harrogate.

He uses Dorcel leather and is known for providing a more generous width.

Yes.

I'm afraid that whilst I meant shoe-retailer Christopher Forbes, I inadvertantly typed the name of a French adult film-actor of the 1980's.

Additionally, in the most unfortunate and extrordinary of coincidences, whilst I meant to type 'good quality leather' I inadvertantly included the name 'Dorcel' in error. It turns out that 'Dorcel' is a producer and distributor of French films which primarily depict the act of coition, intermingled with weak plotlines and rather underwhelming acting.

I can only apologise.

Don't. Or maybe do, I'll stick with Jeffrey West and Loake, they don't get me in trouble with the OH.

Another vote for Loake, wish I could have afford some churches.
I would of said Loakes, but am currently running two pairs and both have had holes in the leather sole within 3 months. I walk from the car to the office so dire quality soles. I've had them both replaced by my local shoe repairer and they now seem to be a lot more hardy..

I dont have hoofs for feet in case your wondering!

I've had one pair for 3 years, wearing maybe once a week and they still look great after a bit of polish
So do my Doctor Marten boots, and they cost me £29.99 in 1980!

I dropped my favourite suede Loake Chelsea boots off at my local cobbler today. On their first replacement heels and soles, originals have lasted 5 or so years. For £35 quid it can't bad. Been looking to replace and the same model of boot is about 170 quid today!

Mine have been great, too. Sadly, work dictates I end up driving in them far more often than I should, so a re-sole was required recently, but they're supremely comfortable and maintain their shape well, despite being owned by me, the world's worst carer of shoes.

As we all know, Charles Goodyear patented the vulcanising rubber technique and founded the Goodyear tyre company. However, few poeple know that it was his son, Charles Goodyear Jr., who developed the Goodyear welt construction for shoes. So, in a way, they are very, very connected.
