Here's one. When I was probably four or five, so fifty years ago, my cousin, who is 12 years older than me had some strange toy/thing.

What I remember is that you blew bubbles through a straw, but the liquid was dark green, and went hard, so essentially, you blew baubles.

The only other thing I remember is that the green liquid tasted fking horrible.

I have no idea if this was homemade, shop bought or 'foreign' (my cousin spent his early years in Kenya)

Any ideas?

Think it came in a tube that you squirted out a blob and stuck it on the straw then blew.

If something was fun and dangerous in the 70s, it was probably marketed by Wham-o.

I remember dark green and dark blue, and I think red.

I'm assuming "Bloonies" was how it was sold in the USA, as the name definitely doesn't ring a bell, and I seem to remember the tubes were darker in colour. Olso the Whamo product doesn't sound familiar.

Wasn't it Magic Plastic in the UK?

I used to get the same kind of thing as a kid when I went to Italy. Was called Crystal Ball, the paste smelled like glue.

I remember it as brown and sold by some dodgy geezer on the balcony at the Daily Mail Ideal Homes Exhibition in Olympia. Some real rubbish was sold up on that balcony - they demonstrate, you buy, get home and there's no chance it would ever do what they claimed. "Here today, gone this evening!"

Does anyone else remember the adverts in the 1970s comics (mainly from the USA) that promised xray glasses that really worked?

And I always wanted to buy one of these to recreate D-Day.

A banana boat, which was two scoops of ice cream, with a serving of fruit salad, hundreds and thousands, and raspberry sauce placed in the type of plastic boat below (no banana for scale).

I was quite surprised to see mustard powder in the supermarket today - I thought it had gone years ago.

Thanks.
There's only a small Tesco and an even smaller Co-op here and neither stocks it.
The Amazonians beckon....

Check your cupboard first it's usually tucked behind the festering tins of Golden Syrup and Black Treacle thumbup
