not aimed at the concealed pachyderm (honestly!!) but this is something really grinds my gears and seems to be creeping in with distressing regularity. I've read and heard phrases like above or "...the car needs fixed...". What's wrong with suffixing "...ing" or prefixing withh "to be", or is my English badly out of date?
It's a Scottish idiom.

The ICC warrant was necessary and is an inconvenient fact but it shouldn't prevent discussion. I can't imagine Putin would have accepted the invite but it could still have been used as a way to give something to the Russians without giving anything whilst both sides get something.

Both the first world wars came about through mistakes and bad judgement resulting in bad decisions bringing on the inevitable.

History since the Gorbachev years is littered with political missed opportunities which has lead us to where we are today.

It really feels as if those poor souls who lost their lives in those 2 horrible wars did it for nothing if within 100 years, we end up repeating the mistakes of the previous century.
If they had invited him he would have snubbed them and made a big deal about why he turned them down, why give him that opportunity.

You're almost certainly right but ignoring the fact that with current world politics he wouldn't have been asked, it would remove from his argument that the West dismiss Russian involvement in overthrowing the Nazi enemy in which he kind of has a point.

If someone wants an extra wife they can have mine. I'll swap for a crate of beer (nothing crap though) and a new hydraulic jack as mine is broken.

Well, we'll need photographic proof she's worth all that.

If your neice decides to live with her fiance instead of marrying him, why should the government be involved in any way? Why do you get tax credits or other benefits from the government for being married?

In a divorce 50% of the assets should automatically be given to the wife, and then an additional 10% for each child.

50% of the husband's income should also be given to the wife for the rest of her life.

Me too, even thought listening to some of the people on the owners club forum you would think that it was a paper map drawn with crayons by a five year old and routes planned completely at random. rolleyes

... and the nice thing is that I am not beholden to a phone signal to get map data.

I have questions.
What if the husband gets custody of the kids? If you have 5 kids do you just give everything to the wife or does the custody matter? Essentially is it the fact there are kids that matters or who looks after them.

Regarding giving 50% of the income for life, firstly why? The marriage has ended along with any financial ties. Secondly what if the wife earns substantially more than the husband, does she still get to bleed him dry?

It’s a great way of stopping men wanting to get married I suppose, or increasing the chance of suspicious accidents.

My wife earns double what I do, and our two children are both adults. How is the above even remotely equitable?
