I had a pair of RayBan Wayfarers which fell apart after about only 20-odd years of use.

As a temporary* measure I bought a pair of these:

Long time Oakley fan from the 90s forward. Have 2 pairs currently on the go. One for riding the bike (Radars) and 1 for lifestyle. (Holbrooks)

Would also consider RayBans and Persol in due course.

Simply because I believe they actually put some effort into the lens quality. Whereas the fashion brands and cheapies end up with distortion points. They also don't pay attention to polarisation or UV effectiveness as much.

Fundamentally though, what matters is that they suit your face shape and crucially size. Millions of people don't understand this

Do Dirty Dog fit the requirements or fit into a dubious category?

I think they are Australian and what our antipodean cousins don't know about keeping UV out of your eyes probably isn't worth knowing.

Fashion - yes. Practical - no. As long as the glasses cover your eyes and the lenses actually filter UV then suiting ones face makes no difference to their function.

Indoor/night time sun glass wearers are all about looks and generally, they look like cocks.

If like me you fish in high glare situations using polarising sunglasses then fit is very important indeed.

Same here, I'm about to buy another pair of "Fuel Cells", after I lost the pair of "Straight Jackets" that I kept in my van. I'd had them since 2002, so was gutted to have lost them.

Persol or Randolph (USA) Engineering for me.
I’ve seen other posting about Serengeti & forgot to mention these.

I have a gold pair of Velocity Titanium glasses with the driving lenses & they are fantastic in poor driving conditions.

I also have an older pair of Lamone but the frame coating is failing.

Excellent glass lenses on both.

Amazing, a pistonheads thread about sunglasses and no one seems to have mentioned Renaud...

As worn by Jim Clark and "Roger Beckerman" in the opening scene of the Italian Job, as well as Elvis....

Pricey but very PH....

Have had a pair of Serengeti for 4-5 yes now, v light, v comfy excellent visibility not a scratch on the plastic lenses. Highly recommend. Not the cheapest but worth it.
I remember their adverts in Car/ Performance car magazine circa 1990.

Although I don't doubt the quality, unfortunately that's put them in the Randolph aviator/ Police category for me. biggrin
I have had a pair of Serengeti since 1990 and they are still going strong, and yes they were expensive then but have lasted a couple of years!

Cutler and Gross if you can find a style you like - they are not cheap but are properly made rather than paying similar for injection molded luxotica branded stuff!

Have a look at https://goodr.co.uk/

Lightweight so good for exercise. I’m very fussy on polarised lenses (which oakley’s polarised prizm lenses are still damn good, albeit not great value).

Customer services good. Had a pair where there must have been a defect as the arm sheared off. Emailed them with my order number and a photo and got a gift voucher code to order another pair.

I keep my Oakley now in my car. Have several pairs of Goodr in backpack, other half’s car, luggage etc. Cheap enough to not get annoyed about for example when you leave them at a friend’s house after a bbq and their dog likes them as a chew toy.

I have 2 general pairs, Carreras in the car for driving and some folding rayban wayfarers.

Carreras are now past their best and I was considering sungods/kimoa and stumbled accross Kyloe

https://kyloeinthewild.com/

I expect the lenses across such brands to be much of a muchness and likely come from the same factories in China. Many seem to offer 3 tiers of lense with similar quoted benefits between the tiers. With Kyloe i can get 2 pairs and feel smug about them being recycled materials.

These look to be the kind of thing I'm looking for- thanks!

I have a few pairs of sunglasses from 30+ year old Oakley Frogskins to my current favourites from Barton Perreira (bought when they were still independent/before they were sold to LVMH!..!).

As a regular glasses wearer I have the sunglasses glazed with a polarised prescription lens (often Nikon).

Mrs OMITN is good at losing sunglasses, so tends to by cheap ones. However, she has a lovely pair of Salt Optics sunnies.

Pair of Oakley Holbrook for the car and Sungod's equivalent for walk abouts/when I forget to take the O's out of the car. I was sceptical about the Sungods before ordering but they seem decent enough for me and lot cheaper than the O's
