bowparty Glenrobbo comes up trumps (with apologies to Byker)

Seems like only yesterday he was racing to the line with Bobbers, now he's nowhere in sight!

Ah yes, the Hercs. smile

IIRC, in late '69, or it may have been early '70, we buggered off north over the Magic Roundabout, to the cheap side of BZN, as far away from the Carterton Shineys as possible, to make room for the C-130 chocolate mice at Bradenstoke-cum-Clack aerodrome.

It suited me fine, especially after I contrived to billet myself in the village with 10 pubs* just a couple of miles from the back gate. Such was the strict security, at times when that gate was unmanned, we had our own keys to the padlock, but don't tell anyone, Pike. nono
Well, it saved driving all the way over to the other side with all it's congestion and busy goings-on, and having to wake up the guards at the main gate to flash something blue at them. You were supposed to present your F1250 ID card, but an Embassy cigarette coupon would usually suffice biggrin.
In total, all that buggering about would mean doubling the daily mileage in my trusty old Rapier on a day shift, or quadrupling it if I fancied a pint in the Talbot at lunchtime, so it was a no-brainer really. See, it's not just the fish-heads who liked to make use of the back gate! wink
Anyway, over on the Shineyside, you were expected to wear hats and ties and stuff.
We just got on with the job instead of poncing around posing for television news cameras whenever there was some sort of crisis going on somewhere. rolleyes

* It had been 13 at one stage, but st happens and we lost a few. weeping

Sorry about that, chaps. paperbag
I can assure you that it wasn't intentional.

Still, as the saying goes, "It's an ill wind..."

I'm just glad I didn't follow through.

FIREBALL XL657?

And we missed your MILEST0000000000NE post.
So did I, Dicky. In all that excitement, I hadn't noticed.

Fireball?
No , she was a Whispering Grass Giant. A beauty,

But I could still wake up all the neighbours for many miles around carrying out a max prop rpm ( "overswing" ) ground run at 04:30 hrs whenever it was deemed essential to operations
bowtie The resonant sound just carried in all directions.

Glad you're in good spirits peqoud!!

Arrived home after a pitstop at Tesco's to grab the missing ingredients from my spaghetti Bolognese for tea, filled Ivor up with super unleaded, £71!!! yikes

Once home I prepared tea which is almost cooked, and finished strimming the edges I missed yesterday after the battery died in our strimmer!!!

Evenin' all.

I've never been shot or stabbed, thankfully. Nor run over by a train, as it happens.

I was once struck on the head by a sidewinder missile, if that's any help?

Probably explains quite a lot, that jester

Congrats to glenrobbo on his dotage postage! Marvellous stuff there sir.

I had a similar Bobbers experience in a pub fight many moons back, fella pulls a knife and my instant reaction was a ‘Glasgow kiss’. I got lucky really.
Normally it’s attack a gun and run from a knife I seem to recall.

Pruning the roses is enough to tell me I wouldn't have made it as a knife fighter.

The thing that most annoys me about Roses is people scoffing them and putting the empty wrappers back in the tin. furious

It's the same with Celebrations and Quality Street.
