A fair point, but in the village of about 1,500 close to where I live (far NW England) the local shop employs 2 sprogs for paper delivery. And yes, it does amaze me, and yes, the population is on the older side.

I should have qualified my post with "in a large suburb of Reading, where you can't swing a cat without hitting a Tesco Express".

Paperboys are long since gone round here.

Our town of 3.5k has 7 paper routes. I used to do 3 at a time, almost £100 a week!

There was an accident near me Friday. Someone asked what happened? Someone replied nothing to do with you and another replied why not phone the police and ask them! laugh

I take it your username comes from the famous establishment in the town? drink

I am local to Reading and spent many a night in that pub.

I had a leak detection company round yesterday to find a leak. They have traced the feed and sprayed a bunch of markings on the drive. Kinda tempted to post on the local FB group to say I've woken up to these markings anyone know what they mean.

Watch the nutters lose their st with their conspiracy theories.

We have a village ‘action group’.

Has achieved fk all.

Mainly run by one guy who goes around the village taking photos of stuff like weeds so he can have a pop at the local authority who now roundly ignore him. He attends the village community meetings as has been granted a 10 minute slot at the start of each meeting, it’s funny as fk, he has his little whinge and then the chair simply says ‘moving on’. This creates much moaning on the ‘action group’.

You would think that his group is popular/busy until you start to recognise the same dozen names over and over, repeating the same old ste day in day out.

He is against or very critical of any development, new flats, a hotel, new lampposts, a skatepark, car parking, litter, pubs being allowed to use outside spaces, holiday lets and now new sea defence works.

I’m now banned for requesting a list of achievements from the 5 years that his group has been active, none was forthcoming.

He’s also part of a small group of older guys who have weekly teams meetings where they ramble on aimlessly about how great they were in the 70s and generally embarrassing themselves, I can’t watch it in case it’s a sad view into my own future.

I suddenly thought we lived in the same village until the sea defence & 5 year bit - we’re landlocked & our guy has been going on his own “action group” for 6 month, but the M/O is nearly identical - this guy is mostly on his own with his local politics rants, pretty unpleasant comments about the ex PC chair (who’s a really nice chap I speak to on occasion) and he cross posts his stuff in the more normal village pages for extra attention.

Quite spooky coincidence otherwise, or maybe it’s normal.

Sounds like a chap in our village. Spends his life moaning about the parish council, normally via very long diatribes on the local Facebook groups. He was given the chance to join the PC, which he did for a few months, before resigning. He complained about some overgrown bushes recently and someone from the local PC bit back. Turned out this chap was sending hundreds of emails to them every month about anything and everything, but specialising in demanding to know how any funds were spent. This resulting in the secretary leaving, as she couldn't cope with his constant demands. People originally thought he was a well meaning, but rather bored, old man. Now they just think he is a dick.

I think you should share the group name, a bunch of holiday home buyers could appear with their “London money looking for 3rd homes”

We have such a group and it's the same few old feckers moaning about speeding, they demand speed cameras, humps and chicanes yet don't live on the road they are moaning about.

I can't work out how they know people are speeding, no one else is complaining about it, there is an almost 90 degree bend at the end of the road so good luck speeding down it.

These are the same people that drive everywhere at 15 mph so of course everyone is speeding everywhere.

Our local group (residents association are very good) through pressure from residents funded through the local councillor a speed gun to be used during the busy times on the estate (school runs).

When it came to get people trained in how to use it; there were very little take up to actually do the speed gun activity. They couldn't even gather enough volunteers to man it for one event. It's never been used and is currently sitting in the community centre, where it's gathering dust. Been there for six years.

They still complain about speeding.

ITS LIKE BRANDS HATCH HERE, WE NEED SPPED BUMPS BEFORE KIDS ARE KILLED

the same morons moaning are the ones parking on the school zigzags and looking at the phones whilst driving, they can’t work out that they are the bigger problem

We also get a traffic warden at school time around 4 times a year

It either falls into the traffic warden is doing gods work, or he is the biggest nonce known to man

This seems to boils down to if he tickets a gobshytes car first or not

Bit like swing state politics at times
