But even so, at 63 he was 90% of the biblical life expectancy (three score years and ten). Perspective changes if/when you reach 60.
Andre Drege, Norwegian cyclist died yesterday age 25 after crashing on the descent of the Grossglockner, Austria's highest mountain during the Tour of Austria.
This is the 2nd death of a high level bike rider in recent times, the other being Gino Mader, aged 26, who died following a crash on the Tour of Switzerland last year.
RIP to both these young men.
I'm not massively into cycling but do enjoy watching the big tours - Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, and La Vuelta (Spain). Whilst it's both entertaining and thrilling watching the races, especially some of the downhill sections, and the commentators often mention how dangerous it is, I understand it is generally rare for cyclists to suffer life-threatening injuries during races.
Several pro cyclists have been killed over the years, but usually due to collisions with cars/lorries whilst out training.

Richard Simmons - fitness coach.
Coincidentally I caught an old Simpsons episode yesterday which included a Richard Simmons robot that Smithers let loose for Mr Burns and I thought then ‘oh I remember him but he kind of dropped off the radar…’.. Bit of a google suggests some unexplained goings on and he did indeed just disappear from view some time back. He was a real well-known face/persona at the time.
