You'll be thinking that name seems familiar, but where from?
If I say the other name he's associated with, you'll know.

Vera, is that you? " I am serious and don't call me Shirley"
Or, is it that you can't spell?

Joss Naylor, renowned fell runner and sheep farmer.
I used to work with a guy who called his dog Joss. The reason was so he could tell Joss to keep up with him on the fells .This could be for the tenuous thread, but it's not really tenuous...
my wife just told me...
that she went to school with his kids and was in the same class as his son, Paul.
that she regularly went to his house, as she was best friends with his daughter, Susan.
that she remembers going to Whitehaven Gaiety cinema to watch The Rescuers with them.

Hardly anyone outside of the world of fell-running will know who Joss Naylor is, but he was - in his day - one of the very best distance runners in the world.
He also came across as a very nice, affable, and humble character. There was (and still is) virtually no money in fell/trail running and so despite being amazingly talented, he remained a full-time sheep farmer until fairly recently I think.
A great shame to lose such a legendary figure.

I had never heard of him but this is why this thread is good. (apart from the poor buggers dying) If I have not heard of someone, I look them up, there's been some really interesting people that I now have a tiny bit of knowledge of.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
