I prefer people to provide a bit of detail rather than tell us all to just “Google” something. To me, it’s just good manners.

That would be the ideal, but simply posting ?? makes you look thick, and equally rude.

You could simply highlight the name and right click search, you don't even need to open another browser tab. biglaugh

In general I agree, but in a thread about recent deaths, a modicum of respect is due.

It takes no effort to copy and paste into a search engine, rather than appear offhand and disrespectful to a genuinely influential individuals death.

Posters should at least consider their own ignorance before replying like that.

Bit surprised that people haven't heard of Noam Chomsky.

Having said that, there are plenty of people on this thread that I have never heard of, probably because they are British personalities. I just highlight the name and right click - usually - look them up in the side bar.

For the majority a few words alongside the name would help, like " noted moral behemoth Noam Chomsky ".

I am not sure, I googled after reading the first page and this was top of the pile, looks like I and others have been a victim of fake news.

Before the internet I knew of people who lied about anything and everything, we used to call them "lying bastids/Walter Mitty's" or just bluntly say "they're full of crap". I assume their decedents now work in the fake news department.

Seems the internet was wrong (who would have thought it!) and I posted to soon about Prof Chomsky. Apologies.
Also, sorry for assuming you might have heard of one of the greatest minds of our time: I thought PH was a little more highbrow than it actually seems to be.

However I would not assume most of you would have heard of Willie Mays, US Baseball legend, who died yesterday.

If people post on PH, they don’t know who (famous) someone is; they’re often accused of being fake intellectuals/snobs, when the reality may be, they have little interaction with that type media.

I had no idea who the Cardasians are and why they are so famous, TBH I still have no idea, but it’s been said before “I can explain it to you, but I can’t understand it for you.” Many times on here I will see a name mentioned and have no idea.

On those occasions I will do an internet search, post search, I’m often still none the wiser as to why they are famous. We’re not intellectual snobs; we just don’t consume much media that includes soaps, reality TV or the like. The only social media I use is PH and youtube, because of location, news is viewed on CNN, so not very UK centric.
