One of the first engineers I ever remember, tought me how not to snap those extractors.

Many try to put the same kind of torque in that a bolt would take which it won't.

amongst the rest of the procedure is to use lots of little impacts. These days, I just use a low torque impact driver which doesn't have enough torque to break the extractor but will eventually vibrate the most stubborn of fixing loose. I think my record was about 45 mins of just sitting there with the driver bashing away.

There's better and quicker ways of doing it of course.

I wish I knew that three weeks ago, when the stud extractor sheared off in the sheared off wheel bolt. I ended up buying a complete secondhand hub assembly. Well, three in fact. First - Duff bearing, second - for wrong size strut, third - good bearing and fitted.
I'm not sure what my neighbours would have said to 45 minutes of impact wrench though?

Snapped wheel bolts are best removed by welding on a nut. The heat of the welding also helps.
