I was thinking about this yesterday whilst sat in traffic on a sunny day. Blasting music with windows down used to be a council/boy racer staple.

Not sure where you are but I never see that anymore. More likely to see a car draped in Palestine flags blasting that god-awful atonal middle-east music.

I was wondering why it disappeared? Young lads just generally disinterested in music these days maybe? More into the exhaust note?.. Or maybe more cars have air-con now so no need to have the windows down.
Middle Eastern music is not atonal. They simply have more notes (quarter tones) in the scale than we do in the west. They also use modal scales in a way we don’t since our music became dominated by the major/minor system during the classical period. In fact, it is far more complex and sophisticated than western music. Are you sure your dislike of the music is not coloured by other factors?

I've heard it all now - disliking music is down to racism <sigh>

Doesn't matter. The zafira and Vectra get a lifetime pass. Until the last one is turned in to bean cans (and then they will just live on in council history like neck tattoos and dirt bikes) they will forever be the epitome of council.
it is easier to just state Vauxhall....

Mokka / Grandland straight to council duty

Yep, Ford rangers are the male council chariot of choice these days.

Funny conclusion to jump to, unless you are actually prejudiced

Has anyone done a list of the top 10 council cars under 10k?
Fiat 500, but only when the driver is orange, blonde, tattooed and has idiotic lips that look like bicycle inner tubes.

Talking of EDL.

Did anyone see that EDL guy get arrested for illegally entering Canada?

Council irony, right there.
Parents calling their child Canada = council.
This didn't get the attention it deserved, bravo.

Add mercedes a class to the list as well. Old one was insta council. The "new" on I liked when it came out. It was all over in a matter of months.

Trying to educate people about Quarter Tones, Modal Scales, and The Major/Minor System = Not very council

Well, that depends. It’s not a Halfordised ‘sporty’ Clio or a knackered Scenic is it? hehe

nuyoricon should be forced to listen to a Morton Subotnick recital on a loop until he damn well learns to appreciate it.

That doesn't make it more complex or sophisticated, just different.

Oh what a shame. I was finding your post fascinating as I'm a big music fan and play the piano. And then you go and spoil it all with the usual internet retort of 'you racist!'. Ridiculous. What is it with people seeing racism everywhere these days? Is it just virtue signalling? Or are they actually so absorbed with it (guilt?) that they agonise whilst getting dressed each morning whether they've worn the white shirt more than the black shirt recently and are worried that they are becoming a nazi.

Anyway. It could have 444 notes in the scale and I'd still find it god-awful atonal rubbish. Much like a lot of jazz, just because it's complicated and hard to play doesn't make it good. Music 'quality' is subjective.
