Good man a life well lived. RIP
We can have selective memories and blindspots re our heroes,
Soul had anger issues and a drink problem
culminating by being charged with beating his pregnant wife.
Not so good then
I'm glad it wasn't just me thinking this.
Everyone has flaws. To be sanctimonious about a man that's just died is not a good look.

Sanctimonious?

I don't think they are. Just observing he wasn't the all round lovely chap everyone thought he was.

Well it has to be said, I was keeping quiet until someone came out with exactly what was going throught my mind. It's fact, but I guess we should forget about what other certain well known deceased folk have done in the past. We know the answer is no. Anyway, back to thread.

Alcohol abuse destroys people's lives, in David's case he acknowledged what he did and owned that, then tried to help others affected in similar ways.

'[Have done] in the past...' is the key. You don't judge a whole life on admitted mistakes decades ago. Well, at least I don't.

Wasn’t aware of the abuse however when I said “a life well lived” it was referring to a full life.

I suppose admitting it is a step in the right direction, but for me, it does at least taint his character slightly.

Didn’t David Soul play some part in fundraising for the restoration of Ernest Hemingway’s Cadillac in Cuba with Practical Classics also being involved? I think it was prior to Obamas changes to import / export with Cuba.

There's been a post on the Practical Classics FB page mentioning this story - he was working with PC to get parts for the car from the US via the UK to Cuba to avoid the ban, but it went wrong when the rules were changed and the car is still there. They are appealing for someone to figure out how to finish the project in his memory.

Not a notable death yet but this is associated with David Soul.
After checking out of idle curiosity, I found that Huggy Bear is still with us'
Antonio Fargas is 77.
However, having a juvenile things that make you snigger mind set, I
could never resist calling him Antonio Fartgas, a.k.a. Fuggy Bear.

I just discovered that David Soul was born David Richard Solberg
in 1943. It's just as well he didn't retain the middle initial for his
stage name. David R. Soul doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

biggrin

David found his original success wearing a mask on stage. He was the original masked singer and went by the name "The Covered Man".
His singing career bombed when he took the mask off.

I tend to ignore most posts from whatever his name’s sock (or perhaps it should be cock) is as he tends to spout utter nonsense.

What is wrong with what I posted? There's plenty on this thread agree with me.

Some very weird people on PH, what did I ever do to you?

One thing for sure, don't die on the last day of the year (ie: in this case, 30 Dec 2023) or you'll get missed in more ways than one:
like on lists of the dead on Sgt Pepper update, and even on PH's long-running thread of Celebrity deaths, or as it is now called 'Noteworthy' (lol).

Even if you 'go' at just 69 years old.

And no, she's not 69 in the above pic!
