Not sure how many others went to the Britcar 24, but there were a fair few cars there to interest Marcos enthusiasts. Congratulations to the Topcats Racing team for getting both cars to the flag, with a very respectable sixth overall for the #6 (third in class), and eighth for the #4.

Cor Euser was there in strength, as usual. He had a Mantis running in the 24, but perhaps of more interest was the "Marcorelly" running in the Dutch Supercar support race. This is the all-new development of the Mantis, purely for racing of course, with many of the characteristics of Cor's famous Mantara Evo built in. That includes a monstrous power output from the engine, flat floor, detatchable rear bodywork and, it would appear, weak driveshafts! He floored it away behind the pacecar from pole on the green-flag lap, leaving a pall of tyresmoke, and when he came round again for the start, one of the driveshafts broke, pitching him nose-first into the pit wall. There are some photos elsewhere on the forum of the impact and resulting debris.

Also in his garage, but not part of his stable, was an Evo look-alike owned and built by a customer. Cor seemed happy to distance himself from this one just a little, and the car was ushered out of the garage on the Saturday morning, but it looked and sounded interesting. Apparently, the guy ordered a brand new Mantis chassis from Eurotech, along with a full set of Mantara Evo body panels (but not with the detatchable rear end) and then put these together around a Maserati V12. It wasn't running particularly well at Silverstone, being fresh out of the box and still requiring some proper setting-up, but it had a nice exhaust note. Needless to say, not eligible for many championships, and unlikely to be seen over here without the Dutch contingent.

Good also to see the old GNM "Azlan" Marcos LM600 from 1999 (former Thomas Erdos/Andy Purvis car) out again, still in TFM yellow-and-white colours. It started from the back row in the last Dutch Supercars race, and powered through to about 6th before retiring.

Mention of former Thomas Erdos Marcos racecars, I was lucky enough to meet up with Tommy the other week at Rockingham, where he was testing the 1994 Team Marcos LM500 with current-owners Skater Motorsport. They're running the car in the British GT Championship, and Tommy had gone to help with testing and set-up. He then had another test at Snetterton a week later. They've managed to get the car running better than ever, but it's a complex bit of kit and slightly elderly now, so may be retired at the end of the year and kept for historic stuff. Last outing is likely to be next weekend at Silverstone for BGT.
