The production version of the TSO GT is in Autocar and it looks good (sketches). The revisions to the originally unimaginative front end have added personality and attitude to the cars face. Marcos now have a worthy TVR basher almost production ready. Well done to those involved.

The original GT2 had both personality and attitude, but for some reason though it never came across properly in print. The first time I walked up to the car in the flesh my jaw dropped it had such presence, perhaps it was the subtlety of the metallic colour used for that demo car.

It's not really a TVR basher. It's more the Griffith MkII.

I've had my Griff since 94 and the new Marcos is the first car since then that is a glaringly obvious replacement.

If you think back to the early days of the launch of Griffs and Chimps the vast majority were bought by blokes over 40. I've often thought that this important demographic has since been isolated from TVR by the very striking (gauche?) shell designs.

Seeing as it is generally the over 40s who have £50K lying around for a second car I think that Marcos have hit the nail on the head with this new car.

The marketing is smart as well as it focuses 100% around the three things that ex TVR owners had issues with over the newer models: V8, build quality and reliability.

It is clear to me that Marcos have not only done a lot of work on the car but most importantly their potential client demographic.

I've been waiting for a replacement to the Griff for the last few years and nothing has caught my eye. In the last couple of months 2 cars have arrived that I very much like the look of. One is the Noble M15 and the other is this car.

I have dramatically gone off the M15 this week as I have been trying to speak to the company and they don't respond to emails or phone messages. I'm afraid that if they want £80K from me they need to jump when I ask them to jump, just as any professional business should and does.

This leaves the cheaper and prettier Marcos. Looking foward to a test drive. Just hope it has the same sort of interior space as the Griff.

Have you tried calling their dealers rather than trying to speak directly to the manufacturer? Noble don't sell direct.

Hi,

Doesn't really matter I'm afraid. They are a small company trying to sell a very expensive car in small numbers.

As such, the company should be happy to speak to prospective purchasers.

This is a car that is likely to be bought by enthusiasts rather than the City brokers and Overseas residents and fo enthusiasts £80K is not a drop in the ocean.

It takes no effort to reply to an email. All they had to do was look at the details in my signature and tell me that I need to chat to Giles in Barnet.

As a professional salesman I get extremely annoyed by the blazee corporate attitudes that have riddled this country's business ethic.

Any successful business knows that it is the tiny, tiny attention to detail that makes a huge impact when having to punch above your weight.

TVR's success in the early days and one of the factors that enabled them to sell a large number of unreliable cars was the fact that they were always on the end of the phone and happy to waste a little time talking to someone.

Maybe I am petty, maybe I am a perfectionist but they've seriously unimpressed me at the first hurdle and now I do realise that this is definately not a car for someone who is not going to sell their sole to a brand.

I'm looking for a British sports car which I can leave in the garage, use when I want to and have fixed instantly when it goes wrong and still feel involved and part of the brand. I shouldn't have to show degrees of dedication to feel part of a family.

I'll drive the car when it appears at Barnet, but it will have to be beyond excellent to overcome the initial experience.

HA,

As a Griffith Owner, I take it you're coming to the Growl in three weeks time?

Hi,

Afraid not. Firstly Griff is still in Barnet having Ohlins fitted and all niggles ironed out. Secondly, July/August is when I travel on business as the markets are generally quiet. Thirdly, I am getting married overseas at the end of August and fourthly (and most importantly) I need to squeeze in a Ring trip while still single.

Sorry

Never mind, still Barnet should have their Marcos Demonstrator in shortly, so you'll be able to try one out for yourself.
