Just a quick one.

Friend from Italy bought (without driving) a 1999 LM500 (I think and he's not sure)(chassis number 0001)from Germany for about 33k sterling. Has he got a good deal or has he been shafted?

edited to add:
It might be a GT. He said it had over 500bhp if that's any help

I'd be sceptical about the 500 bhp but Cazzer's the man to ask. Which engine is it?

LM500 never had 500bhp. Thats not to say that this one doesn't, but its not standard if it has.
There were two lm500 types, 5.0ltr NCK engines and 4.6ltr non NCK, 320 and 250 bhp respectively. There is a remote possibility it could have been a race one coverted to road then who knows whats under the bonnet.
One thing is for sure though, chassis number 1 is not a possibility as Marcos chassis have been sequentially numbered since the 60s. Plus, the last LM was built in 1998, I know, cos it's mine. Mainly they stopped building LMs about 96.
Lastly the going rate for a good LM is about 25k sterling.

Hope that helps.

Thanks very much for the info.

As my mate is a bit of a tt (knows everything about everything), I'll take great pleasure in breaking the news that he won't have 500bhp.....AND that he's been royaly tucked up on the price.

Yeah, that one's mine. It's Jaguar Carnival Red. As far as I know, it's the only LM painted that colour. I thought for a while it was the only Marcos that colour, but there's a Martina for sale at www.redlinesportscars.co.uk at the mo that looks the same.

I've never seen a Mantis that colour but the marcos forum would be the best place to ask. I don't know of any Mantis for sale other than at redline and paul stephens, but the forum would again be the best place.

BLIMEY!!

What a blast from the past. I worked for a Marcos dealer for 18 months after leaving University. I did the Motorshow that year and shared the stand with the Factory salesman....Jeremy Kearns.

Top bloke, always wondered what happened to him. Good to see he's stuck with the marque.

If it's a 'GT' and it has (an alleged) 500bhp, then it's a Mantis GT, not an LM500. Superficially the same from the windscreen back but with a different bonnet and a Quad Cam Ford Mustang 4.6 and a supercharger. £33k probably right on the money...

Bit of a late reply, sorry!

Thanks for the reply anyway.
