Mantis supercharged v GT
Discussion
er.....as i recall the S/C was a retro-fit to the existing Mantisises (was at the 'factory' when they first turned on the try-out on Chris Marsh's car, nearly lost my hearing ) and the GT was the official model boasting it completed. I have a vague memory there were some further chassis and geo tweaks and changes....have info on it somewhere will have a look and see if i can find it

In my opinion, the GT was the better car, it had load sof hand finised details on the interior like stack instruments and hand finished stalks etc. It was also possible to hear a GT from about 2 miles away, fact!!
I drove a Mantis Supercharged with a competition clutch, in the winter with flat tyres, it was interesting to say the least. There were'nt that many Supers about that i knew of, but i recall an Avus Blue, Yellow, Red and even a Purple one that were about when i dealt with them.
Find a GT, Jeremy Kearns might have one or know of one www.redlinesportscars.co.uk
Hope that helps?

The Supercharged Mantis was a Factory version not a retrofit; although the very first supercharged Mantis, a blue one was a customer's retor-fit.
The first production S/Mantis was a LHD yellow car destined for a gentleman in Moscow; which appeared in Autocar. I had the second: S500 BHP (which appeared on Top Gear etc); all supercharged Mantis had chargecoolers retrofitted to increase power/reliability.
The Mantis GT was mechanically similar, except had a much improved exhaust manifold/silencer, producing 505BHP (claimed), Tiff demonstrated 0-60 MPH in 3.9 seconds on TG. The GT also had numerous trim upgrades - not all of which were to everyone's taste.
I have had 4.2 and 4.5 Cerberas, a 5.6lt Countach, etc. etc. and nothing got close to the Mantis in sheer speed.

Hi Rog
I moved away from the UK and Jeremy Kearns (Redline) sold it for me.
Roads in Cyprus are really poor, so I drive my 'old man' Jaguar S type (which cost me twice here what it would have done in the UK!); bought my wife a new SLK last month and have a 206CC.
The Mantis, of all my cars, will stay in my memory forever!
