Marcos information required
Discussion
My father in law's friend has recently been left with a Marcos from her late husband, and we are trying to gain a little bit more information about the car in the event that it needs to be sold, and also try and work out how the best way to go about selling it would be.
Here is all the information we have:
It was purchased in 1972 as a kit with a fully loomed & fitted body shell. It has a metal chassis rather than the earlier wooden ones. It was one of a very small number with the Triumph 2.5 litre Straight Six engine. It is in its original Bahama Yellow. It was first registered in Northallerton in 1972 and has remained in the hands of its original owner and builder, Tony Harding, for 46 years until his death in April. It is in his & his widow’s garage now. She has the original log book. It was completely refurbished between 2014 and 2016. Since 2016 it has had a new exhaust, replacement original carbs and a new set of tyres suitable for road use.
Could anyone tell us:

Could anyone tell us:
- If the car was known by any PH members?
- Which exact model this is?
- If the photos show that it has any obvious options/upgrades?
- Where the best place to get a valuations might be?
Let me see if I can help.
First of all Marcos owners have their own FaceBook page which is a closed group, but easy to join and we can help you if you are on FB.
Look for the MARCOS CARS page
From the DVLA it states its a 2.5 ltr engine first registered in 1972, so I presume its a Triumph engine:
http://www.rory.uk.com/2.5%20Triumph.html
You can advertise it from the FB page as it is a good time to sell.
You could also contact Joe at Redline Sports Cars who is very helpful, and he could sell it on your behalf. I would 100% recommend Joe, at least give him a call. If you do not know Marcos its a very small Marque where we all know each other and buyers will know more than you which is where Joe would be an advantage if you are trying to get the best price.

I hope this helps, I will copy the details onto FB and link this in which might help.

Thank you very much for your detailed reply, and thank you for sharing it to the FB page. I'll pass this on to the owner of the car. The Facebook page sounds like the best place to move on to, and then Redline Sports Cars may be of use further down the line.First of all Marcos owners have their own FaceBook page which is a closed group, but easy to join and we can help you if you are on FB.

Another of the twelve Triumph engine cars has just been put up for sale, it looks to be in very good nick and may give an idea of current values...

Thank you that's very useful.https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C997594
I owned the last of the 12 Triumph engined cars, and from those two pictures, it looks at face value to be 'factory' correct.
it is a Marcos GT 2.5 to give it an official name and quite a rare car, but sadly not especially more valuable than one of it's contemporary models which came with either a 3 ltre Ford V6 or 3 litre Volvo straight 6.
Marcos only built those last 12 cars with the Triumph engine as these motors were already bought and paid for by the factory, initially to be used in the failed 4 seater Mantis project. Due to the financial position of the company in the final months, Volvo refused to supply any more engines without payment, so they had to use what they had - not that the Triumph engine was a bad unit - at least it was on Stromberg carbs and not the temperamental fuel injection system.
