Visiting Latvia

Realise I might be opening myself up with this topic, and before anyone asks, I am not looking to buy their potato harvest....

However I do have an invite to visit a friend who is working out there. They are currently based in Liepaja on the West coast, but looking to meet them possibly in Riga for a few days. Does anyone have any suggestions of things to do for a few days in Riga, anything to must-see or do? Anything to avoid? Any hotel recommendations?

Also if I need to travel down to Liepaja, any experiences of internal travel links for someone who doesnt speak Latvian?
