Welding rods on an airplane? Allowed?
Discussion
Odd question, I know, but I have a pack of arc welding rods I want to take from the USA to the Philippines. I have no check in luggage, so I'm wondering whether I can stick them in my hand carry, or will I get into trouble?
Anybody know the facts?
Before you ask, welding rods bought in the Philippines come 'sealed' in newspaper, and have lived on a shelf for ten years, so are invariably damp and are utter garbage to weld with...

what's going on there with the air intakes?
Is it to avoid debris ingestion and so has dorsal intakes too?
re: welding rods..sorry, can't help...ring airline, see if you can stow in the hold or something?
Shh.. or we'll end up with a 3 page lecture/pissing contest with the complete history of MiGs...Is it to avoid debris ingestion and so has dorsal intakes too?

Probably not. Coming back from America they took out anything that could potentially be used as a weapon and that included a soft plastic bottle of power steering fluid, even though I assured them that in any attack, a soft plastic bottle would not serve me very well.
that might be more due to them unliking mysterious fluids in bottles.i haven't seen welding rods mentioned anywhere as prohibited
Sounds a little risky, simply because they might confiscate them. They aren't sharp, just 2.5mm steel rod, but to the ignoramus they could look like fléchettes I suppose......
Still, you know what these uppity, power-mongering airport security guys are like, especially in the uber-paranoid US.

I just Googled the question, and guess what; PH was top search.
Obviously not many people doing this sort of thing.

It can do that within a few minutes.
When someone asks "what's that song with the lyric in it "2 ways to weld my wagon"?"
You head off for a google, Bingo! top of the list, there it is! and it's the original post....

No Weld Bike Trailer 30 Jul 2010 ... This is the part that holds twowheels in place so you can build ... I think a better way to lighten the trailer is to use something ... I have pulled a wagon behind my bike by tying it to the fender with a shoe lace. ...

Why don't you just check them in?
Check in one box of welding rods? Have you seen how small a box of 2.5mm welding rod is? It would disappear between the rollers on the scooby doo movey thing.
I guess I could shove them in a big empty box?
BTW - there are (or at least used to be) welding rods which had stuff on/in them that was distinctly on the 'do not take on planes' list....
