Looking for a overnight stay away with the Mrs tomorrow night.

Have considered Brugge but thought I might be missing something here in the UK. We both enjoyed a trip to Bath last year and would like another bath-esque trip but not Bath obviously.

Any other cities that are comparable? In East Anglia perhaps?

I'm based in Kent (so Canterbury is out as I've been there countless times).

+ 1. Went there recently and had a fantastic weekend. Make sure you do the punt thing and get a knowledgable puntist who can tell you quite astonishing facts about the history of the colleges.

Cheltenham is quite Bath but not Bath. Wrong side of the country perhaps and maybe a bit too Bath like. wobble

Close to Bath is Wells (smaller). Further afield (possibly too far) are York and Harrogate.

Nowhere near as big as Bath though, by a long way.

Actually, we go to Bath for a day out sometimes, it's like Cheltenham, but more of it.

I've heard good things about Durham and York, but haven't made it there myself yet. Might be a long trip though?

If you like Bath, I can definitely recommend York. Sister in law lives there and it's a great place to potter around.

Similar to Canterbury, as MOH is from Dover, I enjoy visiting there too.

Bit of a curved ball, but what about my hometown of Norwich? Not as far as York for you but also steeped in history and plenty to see and do.

Winchester is not too far away! Lainston House is worth a stay and there is plenty to see! Not as big a Bath though!

After the world cities thread I'm not sure I want to go down this route for the second time in a week... hehe

UK 2001 census population results:
Bath - 83,992
Cheltenham - 110,013.

Personally I'm very fond of Bath, I'd quite happily never visit York again. I'd rather go to Norwich!
