Do you like climbing/bird life? One of our group brought a non-climbing GF on a trip once and she was fking miserable.

Agree with the above. Spent 4 nights there as part of a small group. Each day consisted of large fried breakfast in the pub, collect provisions from shop, all day walking/bird watching, evening meal and numerous beers back in the pub.

This was fine given the length of stay and that the weather was fine (lucky).

Cheers - am going for 4 days at the start of March. Looking forward to it, the helicopter ride is an added bonus...

Only 4 days, there's a pub...I'm packing a book, binoculars, clothes and Ipod. Should be good.

Very envious. I'd love to spend a few days there with the camera (and my long telephoto lens).

I seem to remember someone causing problems on the island quite a few years ago with his 'long telephoto lens'. Talks of affairs and what-not...

Just as a warning, if it gets very windy and you need to make it back for work reasons or whatever, you might have to fork out for a dual engine helicopter. This is good fun though, if you and the bird aren't nervous fliers.

I have booked a stay on Lundy in early March.
Accommodation is near the pub, will be taking a raincoat, torch, binoculars and a book!
Any other tips and suggestions since the last post twelve years ago?

Planning to go at some point. The heliport is half a mile down the road from my Devon place. Helicopter is pricy. Apparently the boat isn’t great if you suffer from sea sickness, and depending on tides goes back to a different port from its departure point.

I've spent a week there rock climbing ...very good

If you're not into either rock climbing or bird watching it could be boring though it is a lovely island.

The boat trip is a bit chundery

I stayed in Appledore last year and saw the bideford vomit express going out occasionally.

Didn't know you could stay on the island.

I have heard that the boat is great for becoming reacquainted with stomach contents. It doesn’t begin running until April so I am flying out on the helicopter.

Bideford ? the ferry goes from Illfracombe.

There's a campsite and a few converted barns dotted around the island .

Like others have said there's literally a pub/tiny shops and that's it , although once a year they have a half marathon where for the day the island/ferry is completely booked up to capacity.

Ferry is Bideford or Ilfracombe depending on the tides. It doesn't always return to the same port, also due to tides.
