Planning offbeat,off season US road trip....to hear blues

Thinking of loading up the Cayenne, running down to Miami Beach from Toronto via Savannah and Charleston, across to La.,and back up through Mississippi and Tennessee. I have never been up through the Mississippi Delta, and want to just stop as it suits me, listen to some good live music, particularly blues. Has anyone ever done the whole Highway 61 trip?......any blues clubs or bars that are worth a detour?.......

went to new orleans and nashville a couple of years ago,loads of live music in bars and open air concerts,you can wander from bar to bar with your drink when you get bored which is quite useful,keep an eye on your wallet but both places are worth a visit.
