Wifey wants a beach holiday, kids want a safari holiday so am looking for destinations that offer both. All suggestions considered. Thanks in advance!

I've heard that Mozambique (sp) is good for this. Some good high end stuff available as well.

We're off to Tanzania in Oct for just that - 8-day safari followed by 4 days in Zanzibar! Can't comment yet, but TZ appealed to us because Zanzibar has a lot better reviews than the Kenyan resorts and I really wanted to see Ngorongoro (and yes, I know we're missing the migration, but that's not everything...).

S.Africa would also be worth looking into - Durban coast is supposed to be nice, and it's closer to Kruger than Cape Town.

Thinking out loud:-
- Does Namibia have beach resorts?
- Where outside of Africa does 'safaris'???

How old are the kids? Tanzania is perfect for a safari - they leave from Arusha generally which is a bh of a bus journey from the capital.

Zanzibar is excellent, I did the same, 8 day lodge safari then couple of weeks on Zanzibar. Zanzibar may not be good for young kids.

Thanks for the responses so far. Just to clarify, I'd like to be able to leave the missus on the beach and take the kids into the bush (hire a Landie or some such) - as such don't want a 2-centre holiday.

Budget? Dunno really. There are 5 of us and was thinking about £3k each I guess, but quite flexible.

Cheers!

Best thing to do is give these people a call - http://www.timefortravel.co.uk/

Paddy and Sarah are the best in the business, and they should be able to work something out on that budget.

Mombassa?

Loads of people go there and spend a few days by the pool and then head inland to see the animals etc.

When I worked in luxury travel a colleague booked a honeymoon (no kids involved) at £68k, including a big discount... Also every year the owner of Fisherman's Friends would spend well over £100k on a family holiday.

Neither do we, which is why I say it's not that silly...if you're just two people! biggrin
(I think I missed that bit out last night... wink )

(£15k on a holiday when a family probably isn't THAT bad either if you're earning the right money...but it'd certainly make me pause for thought at the moment...)
