Work commitments mean I now have a Saturday free in Shanghai from 8am to around 6pm in a few weeks. Anyone visit this place and any suggestions on what to do?
I'm more than happy to sit on a tourist bus and be driven around going "oooh, aaaah" but if there's any other suggestions please let me know.
Thanks,
Robin.

It depends what you want..!

Culture, History, Modern History, Buildings, Shopping, Eating, beer, Karaoke, Massage, fake goods, chilling out..

Shanghai has pretty much all of that.

I would do:

A bit of Old - Peoples Square (museum if you have time)
Walk down the main shopping precinct to
The Bund
Take the tunnel ride under the river to
A bit of New - Massive indoor shopping centre and restarants (try traditional Chinese food) then
Oriental Pearl Tower (go up if time allows) or
Go up Jin Mao Tower / Shanghai World Financial Center
Carry on to Science and Technology centre

OR

The Shanghai Old Town is known as Yuyuan. Centered between Renmin Road and Zhongshan Road, it is located southeast of the city centre.
