laos and thailand
Discussion
anyone get any vaccinations for there?
i didnt for thailand last time i went but met some people who had.
maliaria isnt really a problem is thailand but is in laos, not going to take the malaria tablets though - even the not so bad ones sound horrendous...and have you read about that meflequinine or whatever? well bad!
ive just read a really good article looking at it rationally and have decided that not getting the tablets is the right decision - only going for a few days, will wear repellant and use net....its very uncommon.
just wondering what other people thought.

Thought Malarone was pretty side effect free? That said, it's bloody expensive (£2ish a tablet) compared to doxy (15p a tablet).
I'm not bothering with any vaccines for my trip to Thailand in sept, spoke to a relative of mine who's a doctor and he told me the combined hep a/typhoid vaccine has a load of crap in it which isn't great for you.

i took the antibiotic ones and they were fine - laos has 0 health care so do u really wanna risk it? when u going to laos? its fab
going in december - just gonna get to vieng viang, do a bit of tubing then get back down to thailand. Good luck with that!
(seriously though, malarone is very good and worth the money. Having seen a guy taken down with Malaria in Papua New Guinea there's NO WAY I'd risk it. Also met a rafting instructor in Uganda who'd had it 17 times...)
