I used to hear stories of people pitching up at airports asking "What have you got leaving today/tomorrow?"

Whenever I've been away, availability has been an issue. So, now, with the good old recessionin fine form, are bargains there to be had or is that offset by a p1$$ weak pound?

I've been looking at Corsica or Sardinia which are always pricey, but even standard issue med locations aren't exactly throwing their bargainous offers at me!

What d'ya'll reckon?

I also keep looking on a few of the popular sites hoping to get a week away, doesnt seem to much difference no matter when you book at the moment.

If anyone has any handy links or sites for med breaks i would much appreciate them.

Thanks.

The only place I found with cheap deals was the teletext holidays website, but it does take some time with tripadvisor etc to filter the better hotels from dodgy ones. Iirc Algarve was surprisingly dirt cheap relative to say Turkey.

Just returned from Sardinia on Monday. Easyjet or Ryanair will get you there cheaply, but accommodation and food will set you back a bit, we found it much more expensive than last visit 3 years ago. However, even now at the height of the season it's still possible to find a hotel/B&B, but as I said, you might find them a touch pricy!

ETA - but with flights only costing us £40 return for 2 (Ryanair), total costs might still be not bad, depending how long you're going for.
