We stayed in Lucca (trying to find the hotel details) the beach was a few kms away. Versilia I think it was...

Try Here, we used it as a base for a golf trip, nice area, beaches etc and the food was fantastic.

Looks rather nice but it's the wrong side of Italy.

Should have really mentioned - North East as I'm driving down from Vienna.

Ravenna isn't too bad, not far from Venice or Rimini for a bit of culture

I want something relaxing. Not interested in culture. Just somewhere quiet'ish and with a nice beach and hotel.

I don't know the east that well but I've been told to keep going past Rimini as it gets too busy further up and the water is dirty

It is quite a funny response.

But to be fair, although it's a lake it does have 'beaches'. It's a wonderful part of the world and if you do go, I can whole heartedly recommend Malcesine.

thumbup Your missus will love it.

Nope! It's got to be the sea!

We're both aching for it! It's the one thing I miss living in Austria.....
